Head to Head

  • Previous Matches: 24
  • El Salvador Victories: 6 (25 goals)
  • Jamaica Victories: 10 (16 goals)
  • Draws: 8

They met for the last time in the 2019 Gold Cup. It was a close game, like most games between these two, in fact, it ended with a goalless draw. Jamaica won three of their last six encounters, while the total went over two goals only once.

Regarding the WCQ, Jamaica won the last time they met in San Salvador. They’ve met eight times on the road to a WC, the total went over two goals in three of them. The under is starting to look very tempting, right?

Home Sweet Home

El Salvador sits in seventh place with five points thanks to a 1-2-3 record. They’ve scored two goals and allowed seven. Two other teams have allowed more goals than them. That’s important because goal-differential is a tiebreaker.

They’ve been a more reliable soccer pick when playing at home. Both draws and their lone victory were at home, finishing with a clean sheet in all three games. One of their opponents was the USA, the second top-scoring team in the qualifiers.

Most recently, they played host to Mexico and lost 2-0, as we predicted. Losing was contemplated but losing Mario Jacobo due to a red card wasn’t. El Salvador can’t afford to lose against Jamaica. In the second leg of the WCQ, they’ll play five games on the road, including three in a row.

Head coach Hugo Perez kept the promise to make some changes. The most notable one is the inclusion of Ronald Arevalo, who plays in Denmark for HB Koge. He’s only 18 years old, but he’s a very explosive and effective striker.

Perez’ idea is to have Arevalo playing alongside David Rugamas, who’s the team’s top scorer with eight goals. They could become a very dangerous attacking duo, exactly what El Salvador needs.

Other than Jacobo, there are no other major injuries to report.

Reggae Vibes

Jamaica had a rocky start, but they’ve managed to turn things around. Most recently, they drew 0-0 to Canada and beat Honduras 2-0 on the road. Those results allowed them to climb to sixth place with five points, four goals for, and eight against.

The Reggae Boyz aren’t afraid of any team. They’ve scored in 75% of their matches, making them a dangerous team, even when playing on the road.

Besides beating Honduras, they also managed to draw 1-1 to Costa Rica in San Jose. To sum up, Keylor Navas, Costa Rica’s goalkeeper, was the Man of the Match. I’m telling you; Jamaica is a very tempting betting online underdog.

Michail Antonio, their top player, has had a great season with West Ham United in the English Premier League. He’s one of the league’s top scorers with six goals, fighting with superstars such as Mohamed Salah and Jamie Vardy. Head coach Theodore Whitmore must make sure to spread his confidence throughout the entire team.

No major injuries to report here. The Reggae Boyz have no excuses.

Final Analysis, Predictions

Jamaica is the better team, but El Salvador’s defensive unit is ferocious. Also, the atmosphere at Estadio Cuscatlan is intimidating. That’s why El Salvador comes in as the favorite, but I’m sure the Reggae Boyz will put up a fight.
