Best Meets Worst in La Liga

League Leaders on Roll

Real Madrid have plenty of reasons to be highly motivated. First, they just defeated Barcelona to regain La Liga’s top spot. Second, they already qualified for the UEFA Champions League Round of 16. Finally, Karim Benzema won the Ballon d’Or on Monday. I think that’s more than enough to justify the -300 price that they’re offering in the sportsbook to defeat Elche on Wednesday.

Speaking of Elche, Los Franjiverdes are the only winless team in La Liga, which is enough to justify the +850 price they’re offering.

Elche: Nothing to Lose

Elche have nothing to lose. Literally. Los Franjiverdes are dead last thanks to a 0-3-6 record, six goals for and 21 against. Despite being the only winless team in La Liga, they did show some improvement over the last couple of weeks.

First, they drew 1-1 to Mallorca despite playing the last 30 minutes with one player less after Lucas Boye was sent off. Plus, Mallorca’s goal was from the penalty spot. Most recently, they visited Valencia and drew 2-2. They started winning thanks to a goal scored by Pere Milla, but Valencia turned things around prior to the end of the first half. In the second, Milla scored again to also be named Man of the Match.

Milla and Ezequiel Ponce are the main reasons for you to consider including the home side in your soccer picks. Beyond the fact that they’ve scored two goals each, we’re talking about two very fast players who could become a real headache for the visitors’ center-backs.

Last but not least, Los Franjiverdes are used to putting up a better fight when playing at home. Including last season’s final stretch, they’re 2-3-3.

Real Madrid: Too Much Power

Last weekend, Real Madrid sent a strong message to the rest of La Liga by defeating Barcelona 3-1. Benzema, Federico Valverde, and Rodrygo were the scorers. They managed to win even with goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois out due to injury.

Speaking of Courtois, Benzema wasn’t the only one who won an award last Monday. The Belgian was named the Best Goalkeeper in the world. Eduardo Camavinga finished second in the race for the Kopa Award, which is granted to the best young player.

Regarding La Liga, Los Blancos are the only unbeaten team after nine games. They won all their matches but one, a 1-1 draw against Osasuna. Curiously enough, it was at home, meaning they’re perfect when playing on the road (5-0-0).

Their roster depth has a lot to do with that. Last month, Benzema missed several games due to injury. Besides the Frenchman, there are Valverde, Rodrygo, Vinicius Junior, Eden Hazard, Marco Asensio and Mariano Diaz. Summing up, too much power.

Including Los Blancos in your betting online ticket would mean a $300 wager in order to win $100. That’s how good they’ve been.

Last season, these two met three times and Real Madrid suffered a bit more than expected. Regarding La Liga, Los Blancos won 2-1 in Elche thanks to a brace scored by Junior. The second leg at Santiago Bernabeu finished 2-2. Los Blancos overcame a two-goal deficit in the last eight minutes of the game.

The third meeting was in the Round of 16 of the Copa del Rey. The match went to overtime, in which Los Blancos came from behind to win 2-1.

Elche vs Real Madrid Prediction

Real Madrid will get the three points, but not without suffering. Los Blancos are the better team, no doubt about it, but several players made the trip to the Ballon d’Or gala and won’t be at 100 percent. Plus, they made a major effort to defeat Barcelona and they haven’t had enough time to rest. Therefore, my soccer betting recommendation is to go with the under.

Score Prediction: Real Madrid 2, Elche 0
