Week Two in Serie A
The 2022-2023 season started and we’re in for another exciting period of more than 700 matches. The Italian Serie A rarely disappoints and we hope to see more teams enter the title race for an even bigger and more exciting season.
In the first week, we didn’t have any draws, but we did get some results that didn’t follow the status quo. Undoubtedly, we expect more action this season as Empoli hosts Fiorentina.
Empoli Seeking First Point
The start of the season didn’t go to plan for Empoli. They wanted to take their impressive preseason run into the new season, but they’ve been unlucky. First, they lost their Coppa Italia match against SPAL in a close battle, which ended in extra time. It was an impressive game that ended in disappointment for Empoli.
Their first game of the season was against Spezia. Both teams had a shot at the three points. However, most pundits predicted a draw, given their previous scores and odds. It started as a close game, but in the 36th minute, M’Bala Nzola scored an incredible goal to put Spezia in front.
We expected a comeback from Empoli, but after many attacking tries in the second half and a push for at least one point, they couldn’t get the equalizer. Now, they have to prepare for another tough match, and they would want to get at least one point from the game.
Fiorentina: First-Game Success
Fiorentina closed the 2021-2022 season with a victory over Juventus, but opened this season with losses to Galatasaray and Real Betis in a pair of friendlies. Starting the new season didn’t look good for the team.
They had eight days to prepare for the first match, seeing off Cremonese 3-2 in their opening match. It wasn’t an easy match for Fiorentina, even though they played against 10 men for most of the tie. Giacomo Bonaventura started the scoring before David Okereke equalized before the 20th minute.
Luka Jovic put Fiorentina in front again and, fortunately for them, Cremonese was reduced to 10 men when Gonzalo Escalante received a straight red card. Cremonese wasn’t giving up and even got an equalizer through Matteo Bianchetti. Rolando Mandragora rescued Fiorentina with the winner in the 95th minute.
Empoli vs Fiorentina Head-to-Head
Empoli and Fiorentina have gone head-to-head for many seasons in the Italian Serie A and Coppa Italia. One astonishing thing is that we barely have games that end in a draw. The last time there was a draw in 2015.
In the last seven meetings, we either get an Empoli win or a Fiorentina victory. Except for the game in 2016, when Fiorentina beat Empoli 4-0, the winning margin has been less than three, even if we go as far back as 2005. Also, the team playing at home almost always wins. The home team has won the last four matches.

Empoli vs Fiorentina Prediction
Fiorentina already has three points to their name, and they would be looking to add more as they face Empoli. However, after losing the first match, Empoli would want to do better and get a good result in the second game. Not surprisingly, Fiorentina is the favorite to win with -105 soccer odds.
However, the head-to-head between both teams suggests that the home team usually wins. In that case, we would go with Empoli Draw No Bet at +175.
