Euro 2020 Totals: Onward to More Scoring

Bank on Plenty of Goals

We’re on to Matchday Two of EURO 2020 and it’s been a high-scoring affair, generally. Six of the eleven matches have yielded at least three goals with four teams already scoring three goals apiece. Maybe it’s the long break, but there is renewed energy among the teams.

Wednesday shouldn’t be any different as two of the three matches should feature plenty of scoring. Or, at least, more than the two goals the soccer odds have listed.

Totals Preview

Finland vs Russia: One-Way Soccer

Time: 9 a.m. ET
Totals: Over 2 (-130), Under 2 (+110)

We can start hump day with a “banger” here. Both Russia and Finland are teams that love to score at the expense of defense. Finland scored 16 goals and conceded 10 in its ten games before Euro 2020. This includes two games where they scored three or more goals and four where they allowed two or more.

The Finns have plenty of chemistry having played so many games together and they can be deadly when they’re rolling. The Russians have a “kill or be killed” mentality when on the pitch, as evidenced by their lopsided wins and losses (like their 3-0 blowout loss against Belgium). Either way, it takes just one of these teams to score two goals.

Pick: Over 2 goals (-130)

Turkey vs Wales: Returning to Form

Time: Noon ET
Totals: Over 2 (-105), Under 2 (-115)

What a rude awakening it was for Turkey, who got embarrassed by Italy on their adoptive turf. But before their own goal led to their demise, they kept the high-powered Italians off the sheet. This is still one of the better defensive teams in the tournament, having conceded just six goals in their nine games prior.

What you may not know is that Azerbaijan Turkey share the same language. Are historically part of the Oghuz Turks. A popular saying to illustrate their closeness is ‘One nation two countries’#TUR will receive a lot of local support. After Italy we need it! https://t.co/XoXplw4WTu

Wales is not exactly as defensive, but this team can play rugged and does what it takes to prevent opponents from scoring. Not to mention that Turkey is not exactly the most gifted of teams at generating goals. Bet online on this game to be a grind and decided by a single goal — if any.

Pick: Under 2 goals (-115)

Italy vs Switzerland: One Way Or Another

Time: 3 p.m. ET
Totals: Over 2 (-145), Under 2 (+125)

Italy, considered one of the favorites to score the most goals in the tournament at +700, return against gritty Switzerland. The Italians are one of the hottest teams and will look to continue scoring against a team that is more known for uneventful games.

There was plenty of concern that Italy, which lacks a household name or legitimate superstar, can struggle to score on the big stage. But they destroyed those perceptions. The Swiss are a step up from Turkey and can attack their own end. But they’d rather slow this game down and extend possessions.

It’s about which team can assert their game plan here. The Swiss have not conceded more than a goal in each of their last nine matches while the Italians are averaging a whopping 3.4 goals in their last 10. Bank on Italy to have things their way.

Pick: Over 2 goals (-145)

Pick: And the Totals are …

There are a handful of tough defensive teams playing in Turkey and Switzerland. But generally, offense should win out here. Between Italy and the Finland-Russia game, expect the firepower to shine.

Finland and Russia should have little in the way of defense with both teams combining for at least two goals. Italy will most likely be able to score two on their own. And we can’t entirely count out the rest as Wales and Switzerland have talent up front. When the final whistle sounds, there will have been at least seven goals.

Pick: Over 6½ goals (-115)
