Expect Both Teams To Score as Roma Welcomes Hellas Verona

Three or More Goals in Last Five Head to Head Meetings

High-scoring Serie A teams will battle it out this weekend as Hellas Verona head to Rome for a meeting with AS Roma.

Roma have drawn their last two matches but they’re the favorites here according to the latest soccer odds.

Roma vs Hellas Verona Betting Preview

Head to Head

Roma have historically been the better pick for betting online in this fixture but recent matches have been even. Hellas Verona defeated Roma 3-2 in September and have won two of the last four meetings. It’s important to note that Verona haven’t won vs Roma at the Stadio Olimpico in this millennium.

Roma Manage Late Point

Roma got a late goal on a Bryan Cristante header to come away with a point at Sassuolo last Sunday. Tammy Abraham also got on the scoresheet in a 2-2 draw in which Roma conceded on a goalkeeper error and defensive lapse.

After dropping points for a second straight match, Jose Mourinho’s side are now six points outside of the top four and their Champions League hopes are fading. One could argue about whether Roma deserved their goal vs Genoa, which was later disallowed by VAR in a 0-0 draw, but they haven’t been ruthless enough in most matches this season.

With his penalty vs Sassuolo, Tammy Abraham scored his 11th goal of the season and it’s hard to imagine where Roma would be without him. The English striker reportedly has a buyback clause in his contract that would allow Chelsea to take him back after the 2022-23 season and if he keeps playing like he has been maybe it’s not so far-fetched.

Injuries and Suspensions: Left back Leonardo Spinazzola may be nearing a return in the next few weeks from the Achilles’ tendon rupture suffered last Summer in Euro 2020. Center back Roger Ibanez is out for the next few weeks with a sideband injury and forward Stephan El Shaarawy is out with calf problems.

Defender Gianluca Mancini is suspended for this match after picking up a fifth booking of the season.

High Flying Hellas

Hellas Verona got off to a flying start in their 4-0 win over Udinese last weekend as they scored within two minutes. Some good play on the wing led to a Fabio Depaoli goal on a cross and the Gialloblu never looked back from there. They added another before halftime and cruised to a four-goal win.

Since disappointingly falling to Salernitana, Hellas Verona have won three of their last four matches and have scored 2.5 goals per game in that time. Antonin Barak and Gianluca Caprari both scored their ninth goals of the season vs Udinese but it’s Giovanni Simeone who’s led the way with 12 Serie A goals.

The Gialloblu have one of the best soccer picks on overs this season. Only the Milan clubs have more goals than Verona this season and they’ve also conceded the most goals of any team in the top half of the table. European competition could be in their sights if they’re stronger defensively in the last third of the season.

Injuries and Suspensions: Hellas Verona have four players out for this match in left back Gianluca Frabotta, center back Pawel Dawidowicz, backup goalie Ivor Pandur and defensive mid Miguel Veloso.

Prediction

Last weekend’s shutout win over Udinese marked Hellas Verona’s first since November. Neither team is exactly trustworthy on the defensive end and this has been a high scoring fixture in recent times. Over 2½ is 5-0 in the last five matches between these two and I think the streak will be extended here.
