Expect Fireworks in Manchester Derby

With such a talented roster, Manchester United should never be home underdogs. However, they’ll be welcoming Manchester City with the soccer odds against them. The same happened two weeks ago against Liverpool and we all know the outcome.

Despite a rocky start, the Red Devils could climb to third place with a victory. On the other hand, the Citizens will do whatever it takes to avoid suffering two defeats in a row. The number of superstars that will be on the field is uncanny, especially on offense.

Last season, they met three times, each won one game and the other was a goalless draw. Manchester United’s victory was in the second leg of the EPL, they won 2-0 at Etihad Stadium with goals from Bruno Fernandes and Luke Shaw. Manchester City’s victory was in the League Cup, they also won 2-0 at Old Trafford with goals from John Stones and Fernandinho.

We’re talking about an even series, both won four of their last 10 encounters. During that span, both scored 12 goals and the total went over five times. Curiously enough, both scored in only one of their last five meetings.

Regarding the EPL, Manchester City won at Old Trafford for the last time in the 2018-19 season.

CR7 and 10 More

Manchester United are still in the title race, and alive in the UEFA Champions League, thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo. He’s also the main reason for manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to still have a job. CR7 has scored four goals in the EPL and another five in the UCL. That includes two in their midweek clash with Atalanta to save a point.

“We never give up; we believe until the end. We have different players, different systems, we must adapt to each other. We’ll improve and be better,” said Ronaldo after their game in Bergamo.

The Portuguese also scored in their last EPL match, a 3-0 victory over Tottenham, which allowed them to climb to fifth place. They currently have 17 points thanks to a 5-2-3 record, 19 goals for and 15 against. It’s clear that their defensive unit needs to improve and match the offense efforts.

Curiously enough, the Red Devils have had a hard time playing at home. They’re 2-1-2 (3-1-1 on the road), 2-3 against the spread and 3-2 over/under. If there’s something you can expect from them, no matter where they play, it’s goals. They’ve scored in 80 percent of their matches.

Some good news from their midweek clash is that several players got some rest, meaning they’ll be at 100 percent. The list includes Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood, Jesse Lingard, Edinson Cavani, and Jadon Sancho.

The bad news is that Raphael Varane reinjured. That won’t affect the betting online odds much but could have a huge impact on the field. With the French center-back out, Eric Bailly should receive his long-awaited opportunity.

Reinventing the Wheel

Pep Guardiola is already one of the best managers in history. Nevertheless, he keeps looking for ways to reinvent himself and his team. After Sergio Aguero’s departure, Manchester City started playing without a starting center-forward. They still have scored 20 goals in the EPL and 15 in the UCL.

For example, midweek against Club Brugge in the UCL, Phil Foden was playing as a false No. 9. He scored the first of four goals, with Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling, and Gabriel Jesus also scoring. Yes, Jesus is a center-forward, but he came off the bench.

In the EPL, they currently sit in third place with 20 points thanks to a 6-2-2 record. Most recently, they lost 2-0 to Crystal Palace after playing the entire second half with only 10 players. Aymeric Laporte got a red card and will miss the Derby.

The Citizens have been a solid soccer pick even when playing on the road. They own a 3-1-1 record, 2-2-1 against the spread and 2-3 over/under. Also, they’ve scored in 80 percent of their matches on the road.

Defensively, they’re way more consistent than the Red Devils. They’ve conceded only six goals, the second-best record in the league. Ruben Dias has become one of the best center-backs in the world and Guardiola will have no problem replacing Laporte.

Final Analysis, Predictions

We’ve two juggernauts clashing with the EPL third place on the line. Expect quite a show led by the attacking units. Manchester United already lost the chance to sign Antonio Conte, the players must give their best for Solskjaer. The Red Devils will put up a fight, but I just don’t see Manchester City losing two straight games. Our football prediction includes a Citizens victory and the total going over.

Don’t forget to check the props we’re offering for this and other games to increase your winning chances. Our score prediction is offering a +2200 price. If you want to mix things even more, go with United scoring last at +175.
