The last time that Atlético Madrid, Barcelona, or Real Madrid didn’t win La Liga title was in the 2003-04 season. Things are a little bit different when it comes to the Copa del Rey. Yes, the same teams remain as huge soccer betting favorites, but the competition offers more opportunities for an upset.
Barcelona comes in as reigning champions, but Real Sociedad and Valencia recently sat on the throne as well.
Favorites to Win Copa del Rey
Real Madrid (+250)
Los Blancos last won the Copa del Rey in 2014, when they beat Barcelona 2-1 in the Grand Finale. They haven’t even been in the Final since then.
That’s one of the reasons why the front office brought Carlo Ancelotti back. He’s a certified winner. Los Blancos won’t get into action until the third round, but they come in as the betting online favorites to win it all.
With an eight-point advantage at the top of La Liga, they could take the Copa del Rey more seriously. Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior are having great seasons. Plus, their roster depth is enviable. Gareth Bale, Eden Hazard, Marcelo, Luka Jovic and Federico Valverde all have been coming off the bench.
Barcelona (+300)
Barcelona is having a terrible season. Regarding La Liga, they aren’t even in the top five. Also, they couldn’t advance to the UEFA Champions League Round of 16. Winning the Copa del Rey is their best chance of getting some gold.
Sergio Aguero announced his retirement due to a heart condition, but Los Azulgranas still have a very talented roster. It includes Frenkie de Jong, Memphis Depay and Ousmane Dembele, to name a few. The reigning champions always deserve respect.
Xavi Hernandez is making sure to re-establish a winning mentality. Once Pedri and Ansu Fati return from injury, things should get easier.
Atlético Madrid (+500)
Los Colchoneros last won the title in 2013. They currently sit fourth in La Liga and suffered a lot to advance to the Champions League Round of 16. Winning the Copa del Rey is also their best chance of getting some gold.
I honestly don’t understand why they’re suffering so much. We’re talking about a roster that includes Antoine Griezmann, Luis Suarez, Rodrigo de Paul and Joao Felix. Diego Simeone has been coaching the team since the 2011-12 season and they’ve put up a good fight since.
Defensively, Jan Oblak is one of the best goalkeepers in the world. Atletico must advance at least to the semifinals. Any other result would be a huge failure and a disappointment to all sport betting enthusiasts.
Sevilla (+1000)
Sevilla is having a good season. Yes, they were eliminated from the UCL, but they weren’t going to win it anyway. Regarding La Liga, they sit in second place.
We’re talking about a team that won four of the last eight editions of the UEFA Europa League. That also means we’re talking about a team that’s not afraid. They played two of the last six Copa del Rey Finals, losing both to Barcelona.
Striker Youssef En-Nesyri has been out due to injury. Once he gets back, Sevilla will become an even more dangerous opponent.
Real Sociedad (+1600)
Real Sociedad had a very good start to La Liga season but couldn’t keep up. Winning the Copa del Rey is also their best chance to win something. That’s what they did in 2020, beating Athletic Bilbao 1-0 in the Grand Finale.
They’re one of La Liga teams that start competing in the second round. That should be an advantage in terms of getting used to the competition.
Dark Horses
Athletic Bilbao (+2500)
People often say that the third time’s the charm. Well, Athletic Club lost the last two Copa del Rey Finals — 1-0 to Real Sociedad and 4-0 to Barcelona. They also played in the Grand Finale in 2012 and 2015.
I think they deserve to be included in your soccer picks as the dark horse to win the title. Your payout for every $100 would be $2600.
