FC Koln: Great Start to the Year
Steffen Baumgart’s side failed to win any of its last five league games before the World Cup began in November, but it romped to a stunning 7-1 victory against Werder Bremen last weekend before claiming a hugely impressive 1-1 draw away to Bayern Munich on Jan. 24. Unfortunately, it failed to beat bottom-placed Schalke last weekend, recording zero shots on target and dropping two points, so if you’re betting online you should avoid backing Koln here.
The Billy Goats are now in the bottom half of the table with just 22 points to their name and must bring their A-game in order to pull off the upset against RB Leipzig. They will be without Kristian Pedersen, Luca Kilian, Mark Uth, Florian Dietz, and Sebastian Andersson, while Timo Hubers and Jan Thielmann are both minor doubts due to illness and a thigh issue, respectively.
With his options diminished by these availability concerns, Baumgart is unlikely to see any reason to change his starting lineup, having the entire week to prepare for this clash with no German Cup commitments.
RB Leipzig: On-Fire
RB Leipzig has found its mojo under Marco Rose, who is currently overseeing an 11-match unbeaten run in the domestic league and 17 across all competitions. The Red Bulls have been amazing, even without injured top scorer Christopher Nkunku, holding Bayern to a 1-1 draw before taking maximum points from meetings with lowly Schalke and Stuttgart.
No team in the top-flight league has earned more points since Rose took over from Domenico Tedesco back in September, and no team compares in counter-attacking goals, goals from set-pieces, or goals from different players. Leipzig is enjoying a great year so far, and not only did it close the gap to just two points on the leaders, but it also qualified in the German Cup quarter-finals beating Hoffenheim 3-1 in the mid-week action.
Given the disappointing form of Bayern Munich, Leipzig is still in the title race and another win on Saturday against Koln will maintain the pressure on the Bavarian Giants. Striker Timo Werner has six goal contributions in ten league starts for RB Leipzig. He’s a player to watch and include in our soccer picks and parlays, but the best thing for Leipzig is that most of its players have the quality to find the back of the net.
Dani Olmo was subbed at halftime of his side’s win against Stuttgart due to a hamstring injury, which could keep the Spanish midfielder sidelined until the end of February. Abdou Diallo, Peter Gulasci, and Nkunku all remain unavailable, with Rose likely to provide the likes of Yussuf Poulsen, Emil Forsberg, and Konrad Laimer starts after they came off the bench last week.
FC Koln vs RB Leipzig Head-to-Head
The hosts had plummeted down the table thanks to five defeats in seven league outings before the World Cup, but back-to-back draws on the road, including against league leader Bayern Munich, have it moving in the right direction.
Last week’s goalless draw was Koln’s first clean sheet in 14 league outings. RB Leipzig scored in 11 successive unbeaten league fixtures, winning eight. Leipzig’s total of 39 goals this term is only bettered by the leader, with Marco Rose’s side scoring at least twice in eight of its last nine league fixtures.

FC Koln vs RB Leipzig Picks & Prediction
The visitors enter this clash as favorites, priced at -105 on the three-way moneyline according to the latest soccer odds, while the goal line is set at 2½.
Leipzig may not be quite on top as far as the table is concerned, but it is certainly in full bloom under Rose. It will resume its Champions League campaign in February with a mouthwatering last-16 tie against Manchester City, but before that, it will try to remain in the title race with another win against Koln.
We will avoid the moneyline but expect the visitors to score at least twice on Saturday.
The Leipzig are listed at -105 in our Bundesliga lines. This means that if you wager $100 on FLeipzig, you have a chance to win $95. The Koln are +285, offering a chance to win $285 on a $100 wager. The implied probability attached to the betting lines gives Leipzig a 51.22% chance to win, with Koln at 25.97%.
