Seven of their previous eight meetings were in the UEFA Champions League. Last week’s first leg was the biggest blowout in the series. Eran Zahavi was the home side’s hero with three goals and one assist.
Galatasaray last defeated PSV in the 2001-02 season. Curiously enough, their two victories included a clean sheet. PSV has also finished with a clean sheet twice. They also scored three or more goals in four of their victories.
Why bet on Galatasaray?
I know, losing 5-1 shouldn’t happen to a team aspiring to play the UEFA Champions League Group Stage. Nevertheless, I do believe Galatasaray is much better than that. They won five domestic titles over the last 10 years.
Previous to their first leg meltdown, they won two friendly matches with a 6-3 aggregate. Aytac Kara, who recently signed with the team, has become one of their best players. He scored three of those six goals.
Galatasaray’s roster includes some huge names; Fernando Muslera, Ryan Babel, Arda Turan and Radamel Falcao, to name a few. All of them have played the Champions League several times. They know how much it would mean for the team, and their careers, to advance.
They usually play 3-5-2, but you can expect some changes. Head coach Fatih Terim knows they need to take the reins, and attack, from the start. I expect them to play 3-4-3 in order to be more aggressive.
Their expected lineup is Fernando Muslera; Christian Luyindama, Alpaslan Ozturk, Marcao Teixeira; Arda Turan, Aytac Kara, Emre Kilinc, Omer Bayram; Ryan Babel, Radamel Falcao, Kerem Akturkoglu.
Why Bet on PSV?
After winning the first leg 5-1 you would expect PSV to be a clearer sports betting favorite. Nevertheless, there have been some changes. Pablo Rosario and Donyell Malen are no longer with the team. Rosario signed with Nice and Malen with Borussia Dortmund.
Despite losing two very talented players, head coach Roger Schmidt is confident of achieving another positive result.
“In the first leg, Galatasaray did not play as we had anticipated but that did not present any problems. When we focus on our own style of play, it doesn’t really matter what the game plan of our opponents is,” said Schmidt to the press.
PSV has played five games in July, four friendlies and the first leg of this series. They won all of them with a 22-4 aggregate, including a 10-1 victory over Delbrucker SC. Their roster also includes some big names such as Mario Gotze and Denzel Dumfries. Marco van Ginkel returned after playing one season with Chelsea on loan.
Maxime Delanghe, Richard Ledezma and Maximiliano Romero are out due to injury. Their expected lineup is Joel Drommel; Phillipp Mwene, Andre Ramalho, Olivier Boscagli, Philipp Max, Marco van Ginkel, Ibrahim Sangare, Noni Madueke, Mario Gotze, Yorbe Vertessen; Eran Zahavi.
Final Analysis and Predictions
I don’t expect another blowout. After the score of the first game, it’s inevitable that PSV doesn’t relax a bit. That doesn’t mean they’re going to throw the game away, but it does increase the chances for the home side.
Both have plenty of offensive talent. Both will score again, and I expect the total to go over three goals as well.
