Gladbach: Inconsistent
Gladbach did return to their winning ways with a 3-1 victory against Stuttgart, but. Marcus Thuram netted his ninth goal in 13 league games this season. The team subsequently returned home empty-handed, losing, 2-1, at Bochum.
With just 19 points in 14 games, the hosts are ninth, three points behind the top six in the table. They have a great home record this season but struggling to earn points of late. Gladbach lost three of their previous four domestic league fixtures.
Gladbach were one of the biggest disappointments last season, having ended in 10th place with their joint-lowest point tally in the last decade. They’re badly underperforming at the back. They will probably sign some quality defensive players in the January transfer window. One of the best keepers in the Bundesliga, Yann Sommer, is out injured, and not coincidentally, Gladbach surrendered eight goals in four games.
They will still be without him Friday against Dortmund. Also, Hannes Wolf, Florian Neuhaus, and Ko Itakura are ruled out with injuries. We can’t trust Gladbach now, their poor run of form means we won’t include them in our soccer picks and parlays.
Dortmund: Must-win situation
A loss against Gladbach would sting. Dortmund not only is out of the title race but lose their fourth spot in the standings. Dortmund lost to Wolfsburg (first time since 2015) after winning their three previous games. Against Wolfsburg, 20 goal attempts (six shots on target), but failed to find the back of the net.
Superstar Jude Bellingham has won more duels than any other player in the German top-flight league this season, but that’s not sufficient. He needs his teammates to contribute in order to maintain pressure on the leaders in the standings. Since the start of the season, they are working around injuries to their best players, many of whom are out of action.
Marco Reus, Sebastien Haller, Thomas Meunier, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, Mahmoud Dahoud, and Marius Wolf are sidelined. They won’t be on the squad in this final match before the World Cup break. Dortmund still possess the firepower to take advantage of Gladbach’s poor form, so if you’re betting online, back the road team.
Gladbach vs Dortmund Head-to-Head
Dortmund lost four of their last five league away games, destroying any good form they’ve built at home. The last time Dortmund had more than their current four away losses after seven games was 2014/15. They finished that season in their lowest position in the last decade. Gladbach and Dortmund shared the spoils last season, both with home wins and clean sheets. There were at least three goals in five of the previous seven head-to-head fixtures between the two sides. Gladbach have one of the best home records this season, winning five of seven games (16 goals scored).
