After two consecutive draws, Inter Milan returned to the winning column and it’s one victory away from winning the Italian Serie A title for the first time since the 2009-10 season, but not so fast, because they also need Atalanta not to win.
Let’s take a look at what happened in the last Italian Serie A fixture and how the sports betting odds for what’s next are set.
Italian Serie A Breakdown
AC Milan Collapsed
While Inter Milan, Atalanta and Napoli won, AC Milan lost again. The “Rossoneros” lost 3-0 against Lazio and fell to fifth place with 66 points, marking the first time throughout the season they’re not in Champions League positions.
Inter defeated Hellas Verona 1-0 to reach 79 points, 11 more than Atalanta, who defeated Bologna 5-0 to climb to second place. Napoli sits in third place with 66 points after beating Torino 2-0, while Juventus fell to fourth after, also with 66 points, after drawing to Fiorentina.
Napoli comes on top thanks to their goal differential, and this Sunday they shouldn’t have any trouble beating Cagliari, just as the Italian Serie Odds hint. Juventus will also play on Sunday, on the road against Udinese, with odds of -195 on their side.
Inter Milan and AC Milan will play on Saturday, both as huge favorites, against Crotone and Benevento. Nevertheless, Inter needs to wait until Sunday, because Atalanta will face Sassuolo that day, and if Atalanta wins the title will have to wait until next weekend.
“We’ve worked a lot in the past two years, not just from a footballing perspective. We’ve really focused on the mental side of things because it’s been a very long time since Inter have been competitive, and now we’re 95 per cent of the way towards the Scudetto,” said Inter’s manager Antonio Conte.
Lazio comes in sixth place with 61 points, meaning they still have a chance of winning a ticket for next season’s Champions League or Europa League. After leading the competition for a big chunk of the season, AC Milan not finishing among the top five would be such a catastrophe, and they still have to face Juventus and Atalanta.
Atalanta and Juventus will have another title shot thanks to the Italian Cup, the grand finale will be on May 19. Atalanta lost the title match two years ago to Lazio, while Juventus lost it last season to Napoli.
According to the latest Italian Cup Betting Lines, Juventus comes as the slight favorite with a +140 price.
To Be Relegated
Going back to the Serie A, Crotone and Parma could be officially relegated after this weekend’s games. As we already mentioned, Crotone will be facing Inter Milan, while Parma will be facing Torino on Monday, and both really need to win, otherwise they’ll not be playing in the Serie A next season.
Crotone beating Inter 1-0 is +3000 at the latest Soccer Props. It’s very unlikely.
Benevento and Cagliari, both with 31 points, are also in danger. Benevento will face AC Milan on the road, while Cagliari will also be on the road against Napoli, both as huge underdogs.
