Inter Milan: Back to Winning Ways
Until the end of their domestic campaign, Inter will lead a battle to secure the position that will bring them a place in the most elite European club competition next season. It can already be said that the new champion of Italy will be Napoli, but that’s why the fight for Champions League spots will be entertaining.
Inter currently holds the second position in the table with 47 points, but they complicated the situation with their away defeat against Bologna last weekend. Basically, four teams (Inter, AC Milan, Lazio, and AS Roma) are fighting for three UCL spots, separated by just three points with 14 rounds to go till the end of the season.
This is a must-win for Inter because another failure would be alarming, and they don’t need that before the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals against Porto. For the Nerazzurri, there may be a concern that having failed to break down Bologna last weekend there could be similar problems this Sunday.
That having been said, with Romelu Lukaku returning to full fitness, the hosts should have too much in their locker for the visitors so we will continue to include them in our Serie A picks. Milan Brozovic has also returned to the starting line-up after a spell on the sidelines, with Nicolo Barella missing out.
Lecce: Fighting spirit
Lecce’s main objective before the start of the season was survival in the league, and it seems that they will be able to achieve that. At the moment, they are sitting 15th in the standings with 27 points to their name, 10 points more than the first team below the red line.
In the previous match, Lecce experienced a disappointing defeat at home against Sassuolo, but that defeat should not leave negative consequences for them. Marco Baroni’s side has lost just one of its last four games and has taken points from both Roma and Atalanta in recent weeks. Lecce is well suited to dropping deep, looking to frustrate their hosts.
Lecce has managed just one goal a game so far this season, and there are good odds on the hosts securing a clean sheet alongside their win so if you’re betting online don’t expect a high-scoring affair on Sunday. Marco Baroni is not expected to make many changes to his starting lineup, with Assan Ceesay preferred to Lorenzo Colombo up front. Marin Pongracic remains sidelined through injury in midfield, with Joan Gonzalez pushing for a start.
Inter Milan vs Lecce Head-to-Head
Inter Milan had to battle hard to beat Lecce 2-1 when the teams last met in August. Lecce has impacted the scoresheet in six of their last nine fixtures in Serie A and each of their last two encounters with Inter produced goals at both ends. Lautaro Martinez has been that man for Inzaghi this season, having scored 13 goals. The Nerazzurri have not lost to their weekend opponents in over a decade and won 10 of their 12 home Serie A games this season scoring 26 and allowing just six goals in the process.
