Cagliari vs Lazio
It was another disappointing game for Lazio, who had managed to claw their way back on level terms after Lorenzo Insigne’s opener thanks to a sensational Pedro volley. However, deep into stoppage time, Insigne laid it off for Fabian Ruiz to fire in the Partenopei winner, giving Napoli the leading spot.
Lazio falls even further behind in the race for a top-four finish, just days after crashing out of the Europa League against FC Porto. They enter this clash as even-money favorites on the three-way moneyline according to the latest soccer odds. The Biancocelesti have certainly started to assimilate Maurizio Sarri’s style of football, but what is he looking for in the remainder of the season?
They are out of the European competitions and their main objective is to keep improving their performances, learn to read situations better, transform the opportunities into results and fight for a European position. They play well but they need a better focus in the final third. Lazio are winless in their previous four games across all competitions but they scored at least once in each game. Ciro Immobile is their best striker with 19 goals netted in 27 games, just one goal behind Serie A top scorer Dusan Vlahovic.
On the other side, Cagliari is unbeaten in five games, winning two. They are out of the drop zone but it’s not over yet because they have a busy and difficult schedule remaining. Cagliari continued their remarkable new year’s revival by winning 2-1 last weekend against Torino. Walter Mazzarri’s side came out on top in Turin thanks to goals in each half from Raoul Bellanova and Alessandro Deiola.
They have picked up 15 points from their eight games since the winter break and now sit 17th, three points ahead of Venezia. They are overachievers and they were very lucky to pick up points in several matches, so we don’t recommend you to include them in your soccer picks and parlays. Lazio is by far the better team and following a poor period, we expect them to bounce back.
Pick: Lazio (Ev)
Venezia vs Sassuolo
Sassuolo enters this clash on the back of two amazing wins over Inter and Fiorentina. Many times this season, we talked about how good Sassuolo is going forward. They have an amazing squad and on their day they can beat anyone. They are still fighting for a European spot, sitting 10th in the standings with 36 points, eight points behind the top six. The problem with Sassuolo is that they can’t keep clean sheets. They have the worst defense in the top half of the table with 45 goals conceded, with many of their games finishing with at least three goals.
Alessio Dionisi is not expected to make too many changes to his Sassuolo side, but defensive mainstay Gian Marco Ferrari is now back from suspension and will return in the starting lineup. The offensive quartet of Gianluca Scamacca, Giacomo Raspadori, Domenico Berardi and Hamed Junior Traore is set to lead the attacking line.
On the other side, Venezia is sitting three points behind the first salvation spot with just 22 points earned in 26 games. They lost five of their previous eight domestic league games, including last weekend’s defeat 3-1 to Verona. They won just two in 13 home games this term, conceding 24 goals.
Sassuolo won the reverse match 3-1 on home soil and if you’re betting online, the value is on the visitors. They are full of confidence and we expect them to add three more points to their season tally and close the gap on the European spots.
