Leeds: Impressive Start

Leeds kicked off their season with an impressive 2-1 victory against Wolves. The new U.S. men’s national team sensation, Brenden Aaronson, was the player of the match. He had the second-most touches for Leeds in the attacking third. He carried the ball farther than anyone else on the team. Together with fellow countrymen Tyler Adams, who arrived from RB Leipzig, they will play a great part in Leeds’ season.

Leeds was kept to a 2-2 draw last weekend by Southampton and are unbeaten in their opening two matches, sitting sixth at the start of their first full season under Jesse Marsch. Leeds made a big call to replace Marcelo Bielsa with Marsch last season, but the American manager secured their safety on the final day of the Premier League and they have built on that.

The Whites have been producing fine displays this term despite the fact that the key players Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha left the club in the summer transfer window. We expect them to stick to their attacking style of play. A player to watch is the Spanish forward Rodrigo, who has already scored three goals. The only problem with Leeds is that they are conceding too many goals. Last weekend, they failed to keep a two-goal lead against the Saints, conceding two goals in the last 10 minutes of the game. If they fail to sustain themselves Sunday, the Blues might take advantage.

Chelsea: Powerful

While a 2-2 draw with Spurs is nothing to be truly upset about, we can all agree that Chelsea was unlucky to drop two points last weekend, conceding the equalizer in the last minute of the match. A VAR controversy and several confrontations between the two managers who were red-carded at the end of the match added a great deal of drama to the London Derby. Manager Thomas Tuchel will miss the trip to Elland Road as Chelsea look to get their second win of the season.

Chelsea looked great and we expect them to continue to improve. Chelsea has scored three goals through the first two match weeks. They are dominating their fixtures but they are struggling to convert their goal opportunities and generate a real threat in the final third. Tuchel is still trying to upgrade his attacking line with a real striker and, according to reports in both Spain and England, Chelsea made a $27m bid for Barcelona’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. With or without him, Chelsea remains one of the top sides in the Premier League and we will continue to include them in our soccer picks and parlays. However, to be a serious contender, they will need a consistent scoring threat from their front three.
