Return to action after devastating covid outbreaks, Leicester hosts Tottenham Wednesday, Jan. 19th. You can live-bet on the English Premier League by using our sportsbook.
Leicester: Depleted
The Foxes beat Watford, 4-1, in the FA Cup Round 3, but they have a much bigger test to face in this league game. Since important strikers Jamie Vardy and Kelechi Iheanacho, defenders Jonny Evans and Daniel Amartey, along with midfielder Wilfred Ndidi are out of contention for the hosts, they will definitely struggle to find the back of the net against the well-organized Spurs. Add to that Ricardo Pereira, Wesley Fofana, Timothy Castagne and Ryan Bertrand are injured for the hosts.
The hosts enter this clash as underdogs, being priced at +210 on the three-way moneyline according to the latest soccer odds. They’ve yet to take to the field in the Premier League in 2022, having had scheduled meetings with Norwich, Everton and Burnley postponed. The last one was called off last weekend because Burnley did not have enough available players
The first portion of the season had more than its share of twists and turns, with the Foxes sitting 10th with 25 points earned in 18 games. They are 12 points behind the top four, though they have four games in hand on fourth-placed West Ham. They conceded 33 goals this season, as only Leeds, Everton, Watford, Norwich and Newcastle have allowed more. Leicester kept only three clean sheets this season but, surprisingly, they became the first team across all competitions to keep Liverpool at bay in the last round of 2021.
Their main objective is to qualify in the European competitions, with Champions League being the target. However, we don’t expect them to finish in the top four. Leicester were one of our favorite teams to bet, not the moneyline but rather the goals market, since they always deliver. Win or lose, Leicester are scoring and conceding, so we will add them again on our soccer picks and parlays with a small stake.
Take the over 2½ goals at -125.
Tottenham: Strong under Conte
The north London derby between Tottenham and Arsenal Sunday has been postponed, leaving the visitors very surprised that Arsenal’s application has been approved by the Premier League board. European soccer is affected by the new covid variant. Imagine that the EPL Round 23 kicks off Friday, but just three in 20 teams have played all 22 rounds of the season. Tottenham are sitting sixth in the domestic league standings, having four games in hand on leaders Man City, Chelsea and West Ham. The only team in the division who have played fewer games than Tottenham this season are bottom-placed Burnley.
Spurs are going to be the most interesting Premier League team to watch for as long as Antonio Conte can stick to it. It’s a fascinating clash of styles between the manager who always wins and the club that refuses to add some value to the squad. Conte is worried that the club will not back him in the winter transfer window. He signed an 18-month contract with the option of another year, renowned for his ability to revitalize his teams. With no weapons from the club, however, he might leave earlier than expected.
Unfortunately, Spurs’ great form has stuttered over the last few matches, struggling to break teams down and keep clean sheets. Still, they are unbeaten in eight Premier League matches, but the modest surrender against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semifinal and Sunday’s unimpressive performance against Morecambe have highlighted the club’s lack of squad depth.
Given Leicester squad issues, the observers would say that Tottenham should easily win this game However, if you’re betting online, we don’t recommend you back them. Leicester played with their heart against Liverpool a few weeks ago. A depleted squad and the same players out once again, thus we expect them to take something out of this clash. We can’t separate the teams, and when that’s the case, never forget to go with the draw.
