Leverkusen vs. Augsburg: Hosts Back on Track

We’ve cashed our second Bundesliga Parlay in a row at +213 as RB Leipzig won its first away match of the season by beating Stuttgart 2-0 while Dortmund destroyed Freiburg 5-1, covering the over 3 goals. Let’s make it three in a row with this weekend’s parlay.

After four consecutive rounds without a win, Leverkusen beat Gladbach 2-1 on the road and recovered their smile after a poor month. Star striker Patrik Schick scored his 18th goal of the season, a Leverkusen club record 19 games into a season. The 30 shots on goal produced by Leverkusen represents another season high. Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz became the first player under the age of 19 to score more than 10 Bundesliga goals, with only Thomas Muller boasting more assists than him this season (nine).

The hosts enter this clash as heavy favorites at -225 on the three-way moneyline with the latest soccer odds. They trashed Augsburg in the reverse fixture, beating them 4-1 on the road, and we expect them to repeat that performance on Saturday. At home, they scored 21 goals in nine fixtures. Augsburg is one of the worst teams on the road, winning once in 10 away games, losing five and scoring just six goals.

The visitors are winless in their previous four fixtures and have one of the worst attacks in the league with just 19 goals netted in 19 games. They are sitting 15th in the standings, just one point above the red zone. They’ve never won against Leverkusen in the Bundesliga in the last 15 years, losing seven of their previous 10 away head-to-heads. Leverkusen managed to cover the spread in five of their last six mutual encounters against Augsburg.

Pick: Leverkusen -1½ goals (+120)

Gladbach vs. Union Berlin: Value on Visitors

Gladbach saw their five-game winless run come to an end two weeks ago with a surprising 2-1 win over Bayern Munich, but they immediately reverted to form, losing at home 2-1 to Leverkusen. Gladbach’s Yann Sommer became the first goalkeeper to save two penalties in a Bundesliga match since Nurenberg’s Raphael Schafer almost eight years ago. This wasn’t enough to prevent Leverkusen from claiming the Rhine Derby spoils in a dramatic win. The visitors are one of the teams to fade. If you’re betting online, never trust Gladbach.

Many of their star players are looking for a way out, trying to leave the club as quickly as possible. They are just four points above the danger zone, and only Hertha Berlin and Greuther Furth have conceded more goals this season. They simply can’t defend and the lack of attacking firepower and fighting spirit will definitely be the key to their season. They lost the reverse match against Union Berlin 2-1 on the road but, surprisingly, they are favorites to win this clash at +115.

On the other side, Union Berlin are unbeaten in their last four fixtures, winning two. Last weekend they ended Hoffenheim’s seven-game unbeaten run, adding three more points to their season tally with a superb 2-1 victory. They are still missing top striker Taiwo Awoniyi, who’s playing for Nigeria in the Africa Cup of Nations, but midfielder Grischa Promel stepped up and scored three goals in his last two Bundesliga appearances.

Last season, Union qualified for their first European competition in 20 years, only two years after being promoted back into the top-flight league. Everyone was expecting them to struggle this season, but they are fifth in the table and have utilized a special skill: the wing-backs effect. They are pressing high trying to win and recover the ball fast.

Depending on the selective pressing tactic for the game, they change their marking from a zonal, deep defensive style to a high, man-orientated press. They are one of the most organized teams in the Bundesliga and we love including them on our soccer picks and parlays. The value is definitely on Union Berlin, who should have the necessary weapons to return home with at least one point.

Pick: Union Berlin +½ (-135)
