Leverkusen vs Union Berlin Game Preview, Live Stream, Odds, Picks & Predictions

European Weekend Banker: Leverkusen vs. Union Berlin

Union Berlin travel to play Bayer Leverkusen Saturday at BayArena in their opening Bundesliga fixture of the year. Both sides will be looking to kick off their campaign with a win and our sportsbook is offering a great number of props for this clash.

Leverkusen determined to kick the year with a win

Leverkusen: Strong season

Despite losing Kai Havertz to Chelsea last season, Leverkusen managed to give a good account of their abilities in the first half of the Bundesliga season. More of the same will be expected from them during the second half of the 2021-22 campaign as a new era is ushered under Gerardo Seoane. The former Young Boys manager changed the attitude bringing more consistency away from home.

They enter this match as favorites being priced at -120 on the three-way Moneyline with the latest soccer odds. The hosts picked up more points from road games than at home (15 from 28). Leverkusen have been finding it hard to keep clean sheets of late, but they’ve also found ways to score goals themselves. They are winless in their previous three league games-two losses-but they have the second-best attack in the German top-flight league (after Bayern Munich) with 40 goals netted this season.

Their striker, Patrik Schick, is one of the most underrated players in European football. He’s a top striker and an incredible finisher. He’s sitting second in the top scorers’ chart (after Robert Lewandowski) with 16 goals in 17 games. He even scored four in one match, being the only player to do so this season. On top of that, Leverkusen have Florian Wirtz go down in history as the first player under the age of 19 to score more than 10 Bundesliga goals. The young attacking midfielder can take control of a game no matter which position he plays, capable of playing across the line, behind a striker or even in a deep-lying playmaker role.

He’s an outstanding technician, loves to play, is very creative, has a good shot, runs hard, and is quick. He’s a total package and a great goal-assister. He had assisted a goal in six of his 11 appearances. We expect him to grow even more in the second half of the season. We love betting on Leverkusen, and we recommend you use them in your soccer picks and parlays.

Union Berlin: Poor record on the road

Union Berlin suffered badly in the first half of the season due to their European commitments. They don’t have a big squad at their disposal, and they are not used to playing every three days. That’s why they had many inconsistencies this season. They were very lucky because the top teams dropped many points so the gap between them and the Champions League spots is very small, just a point.

Basically, if they win here, they leapfrog Leverkusen in the standings and, with a bit of luck, they might finish the round in the top 4. They are not the best attacking team in the league, but they are very organized and rock-solid at the back. Their away record is poor, as they picked up just nine points in eight matches on the road.

Unfortunately, they will be without their best player and scorer Taiwo Awoniyi who left to play for his native Nigeria in the Africa Cup of Nations. He scored nine goals from Union’s 23. It will be a great challenge for Union to find the back of the net without him inside the team. If you’re betting online you must take into consideration all the aspects of the game, from current form to missing players and even weather. Given the circumstances, we expect Leverkusen to kick off the new year with a crucial win and secure their position in the standings.
