Lille: From Hero to Zero

It always seemed unlikely that Lille could repeat their remarkable title triumph of last season but the northern club would have expected better than to be sitting 10th in the standings with three rounds to go till the end of the season.

Jocelyn Gourvennec’s team is 11 points adrift of the Champions League qualifying spots and nine behind the European places. Their UCL season ended in the round of 16 when they lost 4-1 on aggregate to Chelsea when their limitations were exposed by the title-holders.

Already weakened last summer when they lost goalkeeper Mike Maignan to AC Milan and BOubakary Soumare to Leicester, Lille lost left-back Reinaldo to Atletico Madrid and winger Jonathan Ikone to Fiorentina in the January transfer window. Their attacking duo Burak Yilmaz and Jonathan David have scored just two goals between them across all competitions in 2022.

They don’t stand a chance of returning to any kind of European competition next season so, they have nothing to play for the remainder of the season. They lost three in their previous four games and there’s no way we will include them in our soccer picks and parlays.

Xeka and Hatem Ben Arfa are all pushing for a return to the squad after their respective injuries. Two of their best players Renato Sanches and Burak Yilmaz are suspended for this clash after being red-carded against Troyes, so here’s another reason why we should fade Lille. Lille ends the season with games against three of the teams directly above them in the table so they are already enjoying their summer break having nothing to play for.

Monaco: Seven Consecutive Wins

Monaco continued their exceptional spell of form last Saturday when they beat relegation-threatened Angers 2-0 on home soil. It was the seventh league win in a row for AS Monaco who is flying high under new manager Philippe Clement. This amazing winning thread has brought Monaco to the brink of the top-three spots in Ligue 1.

They currently share third place with Rennes and they are sitting just three points behind second-placed Marseille. The top three teams will earn the right to represent their country in the Champions League next season, meaning the stakes are sky-high for Clement and his troops in all of the remaining three matches of their domestic campaign.

Star midfielder, Aurelien Tchouameni will be a player in demand in the summer transfer window. Real Madrid and Manchester United are reportedly very keen to sign him, while reports have suggested that Liverpool has already begun talks being favorites to sign him.

Axel Disasi, Aurelien Tchouameni, and Vanderson will return from suspension after missing last weekend’s clash against Angers. Ruben Aguilar should be the only player who will miss this clash through illness. If you’re betting online you should understand how crucial is this clash for Monaco and why we should back them.

Lille vs Monaco Head-to-Head

Lille and Monaco shared the spoils in the reverse fixture with the clash ending in a 2-2 draw. Four of the last five mutual encounters between the two sides produced at least three goals with both teams contributing to the scoresheet. AS Monaco has the third-best defense in the league with 35 goals allowed this season while Lille has a negative goal difference with 42 goals scored and 43 conceded. At home, Lille won just seven in 17 games while Monaco is the fourth-best team on the road winning seven in 17 away games. As we previously noted, Monaco enters this clash on the back of seven wins in a row keeping three clean sheets in the process.

Lille vs Monaco Predictions

Despite playing on the road, the visitors enter this clash as favorites being priced at +105 on the three-way moneyline according to the latest soccer odds while the goal line is set at 2½.

The two teams will enter the tie in a completely opposite mood and that’s why Monaco are favorites. Considering the form of Monaco heading into this clash, it is difficult to see many Ligue 1 teams stopping them from coming out victorious at this stage. Given the circumstances, Philippe Clement’s men should be in control from the start to the end and we will back them to return home with the three points.

Lille’s main objective is to strengthen their team and be ready for the next season. The players look tired and their confidence tool a big hit this season. We don’t expect them to bounce back after last weekend’s disappointing defeat to Troyes and we will be against them in each of the final three games.
