Top of the Group
Group A felt as if it could have been interesting, but Napoli and Liverpool ran away with it, already moving to the knockout potion with massive leads in the standings. Napoli has won all five games, while Liverpool’s one none-win was a loss (against Napoli) on the first day of tournament play.
The bridesmaid of last season, Liverpool is in second again and needs to win by at least seven goals to top the group. Napoli, meanwhile, is in the midst of a great win streak of their own.
Liverpool’s Troubles in EPL
While Liverpool has looked solid in the Champions League, 4-0-1 with a goal differential of nine, it’s been a confusing season in the EPL. Being a top-four team since the 2017-18 season, Liverpool currently sits in 10th in the English Premier League race, looking very average at times.
The loss of Sadio Mané, along with the constant pressure of the Champions League and domestic success, seems to have taken a toll on Jürgen Klopp’s side. They’ve lost a step. Their last two Premier League games have seen them lose to “less-than” opponents, having fallen, 1-0, to Nottingham Forest, the bottom-feeding club, then 2-1 to Leeds United at home.
However, their form in domestic play has not affected their play in the Champions League. Between those two terrible losses, Liverpool blitzed Ajax, 3-0. Mohamed Salah has been spectacular in the tournament, scoring six of his 10 goals.
Napoli the Best in Europe?
Napoli is on an unbelievable stretch of form and may be considered the best team in Europe. They’re in control of Serie A, and unless Liverpool wins by an improbable margin, they’ll finish at the top of Group A.
Putting in perspective how good Napoli is at the moment, they have won their last 12 matches (undefeated in the previous 27), and haven’t lost this season. It was August 31st, a 1-1 draw against Lecce, the last time that Napoli did not win. They have already officially completed two months of perfect play, having defeated Liverpool, Lazio, Milan, Ajax (twice) and Roma during this run.
In the Champions League, they have scored more goals (20) than anyone (four more than the second-place club), having surrendered four. That’s the fourth-fewest in the tournament. With the whole team looking fantastic, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is the catalyst with eight goals.
Liverpool vs Napoli Head-to-Head
Liverpool and Napoli have drawn into the same group once in the Europa League and three times in the Champions League. In the Europa League (2010), they drew in the first game, with Liverpool winning the second at home. In back-to-back years (2018-19), the two sides met in the Champions League groups phase. They split wins at home in 2018, then Napoli won by an aggregate 3-1 in 2019. Napoli was 4-1 at home in the first game of Group A this season.

Liverpool vs Napoli Betting Lines
Liverpool vs Napoli Prediction
Despite the top of the group seemingly determined, there’s still a decent amount of incentive in this game. Liverpool had been on a 29-game unbeaten streak at home until Leeds United ended that in their last match. Napoli’s still on a great run of form, and won’t easily cede that.
Napoli seems overlooked in the game, coming in as the +300 underdog while being one of the best teams in Europe. That’s way too generous, but we’re going to hedge just a bit.
Liverpool is listed at -125 in our Vegas lines. This means that if you wager $125 on Liverpool, you have a chance to win $100. Napoli is +300, offering a chance to win $300 on a $100 wager.
The implied probability attached to the betting lines gives Liverpool a 55.56% chance to win, with Napoli at 25.00%.
Score Prediction: Liverpool 2, Napoli 2
