Why Peru Is a Value Bet Against Canada

Last Friday, Peru faced Chile and won a point thanks to a goalless draw. Keep in mind that Chile is led by head coach Ricardo Gareca, who coached Peru from 2015 to 2022. He knows the team better than anyone but still couldn’t find a way to beat them. Not even after Luis Advincula, arguably Peru’s best player, left the game due to a minor injury.

Advincula is expected to sit this one to focus on the match against Argentina, but I still think you should include Peru in your soccer picks. We’re talking about a team that only conceded one shot on goal against Chile. Plus, goalkeeper Pedro Gallese, who plays for Orlando City in the MLS, is one of the best in the region.

Summing up, all they need is to be more effective on the other half of the field, for which they must trust Gianluca Lapadula, who has scored 10 goals in 33 games. Here’s another good-value bet as the favorite to score in the match at +240 odds.

Other Prop Bets to Consider

Experience. That’s another reason to bet on Peru. Paolo Guerrero, one of the best strikers over the last two decades, is on their bench. The 40-year-old veteran is Peru’s all-time top scorer with 40 goals and is offering a +300 betting line as anytime goalscorer. If things get complicated, I can see Guerrero coming in to make a difference.

Canada put up a good fight against Argentina, and I expect them to do the same against Peru, which is why betting on Peru to win by 1 goal is the way to go. The gap between CONMEBOL and CONCACAF is slowly fading away, especially when it comes to the top teams, and right now the United States and Canada are atop the list.

Peru vs Canada Betting Tips

  • Peru won the last and only meeting between the two 2-0.
  • The first half of their previous meeting finished with a goalless draw.
  • Peru hasn’t lost in its last five games.
  • Canada wins 27% of halftimes, Peru 40%.
  • Canada failed to score in its last three matches.

Copa America Betting: Will Canada Score?

The talent is there, which means the short answer is yes, but let’s elaborate a bit more. Canada’s attacking unit includes Jonathan David, Cyle Larin, and Tajon Buchanan, who play in Europe for LOSC Lille, Mallorca, and Inter Milan.

And you know what? I’m going to include Alphonso Davies. Technically, he’s a left-back, but most of the time he ends up playing as a winger. He finished the season playing up front for Bayern Munich, which allowed him to score a beauty at Santiago Bernabeu in the UEFA Champions League semifinals against Real Madrid.

Against Argentina, Canada finished with two shots on goal. That number will increase against Peru because, in the end, it’s go big or go home for the Canucks, especially if Argentina manages to defeat Chile, which is very likely.

Canada will score but it won’t be enough to win. After all, Peru has finished in the top four in each of the last five editions of the continental tournament. My betting prediction is Peru to win 2-1.
