Marseille Determined to Bounce Back
Marseille couldn’t keep up with PSG. However, the Olympians depend only on themselves to finish as the runner-up. That would mean qualifying for the UEFA Champions League Group Stage. Not bad for a consolation prize, right?
Bear in mind, that Rennes is only three points behind. In other words, last week’s result against Lyon can’t happen again.
As for Lorient (+290), the Merlucciidaes need the victory to officially avoid relegation, making them a tempting online gambling underdog.
Lorient: Way Better at Home
Lorient is currently sitting in sixteenth place, seven points ahead of Bordeaux (eighteenth). There’s a good chance for the Girondins to defeat Angers, that’s why the Merlucciidaes must do whatever it takes not to lose.
Recent scores and odds haven’t been on Lorient’s side. Two weeks ago, Rennes crushed them 5-0. Most recently, they lost 2-1 to Reims. They deserved better luck against Reims. After all, they won possession with 52 percent and finished with six more shots on goal.
Despite losing their last game at Stade Yves Allainmat, the Merlucciidaes have been much better when playing at home. They’ve won and lost six games, while they’ve won only two and lost 11 when playing on the road. Plus, regardless of the result, they scored in four of their last five home games.
Terem Moffi, who scored three goals in their last five games, is the team’s top scorer with eight goals. He’s followed by Ibrahima Kone and Armand Lauriente, each with five. They don’t usually play together but that might change on Sunday. Lorient needs to take the reins right from the start.
Marseille: Way Better on the Road
Believe it or not, Marseille is sitting in second place despite having an 8-5-5 record when playing at home. It’s not bad, but PSG is 15-2-0 when playing at Parc des Princes. The good news is that Marseille has won 11 games on the road. To continue with the comparison, PSG has won nine.
Last weekend, the Olympians lost 3-0 to Lyon at the Velodrome. All three goals were in the second half. I have no doubt that the Olympians were thinking about Feyenoord, their opponent in the Semifinals of the Conference League. Well, they couldn’t advance to the Grand Finale, so now they can fully focus on Ligue 1.
Besides having more victories on the road than at home, the Olympians have scored in 13 straight road games. Defensively, they finished with a clean sheet in six of those games. It must be that they play way less pressured.
Marseille comes in as the soccer betting favorite thanks to a -115 price. You would need to wager $115 to make a $100 profit. Not bad considering all the above.
If you need one more reason to consider including Marseille in your soccer picks, there’s Dimitri Payet. The veteran midfielder leads the team in goals and assists with 12 and 10. Many consider he should win MVP over Kylian Mbappe (PSG), who is the league’s top scorer with 24 goals.

Lorient vs Marseille Prediction
Marseille is the better team, no doubt about it, however, the Olympians had a very intense game on Thursday against Feyenoord. Therefore, I think they’ll suffer a little at Stade Yves Allainmat. It won’t be enough for Lorient to pull off the upset, but it will be enough for the total to go over. Like it did in three of their last four meetings.
Score Prediction: Marseille 2, Lorient 1
