Lyon Looks to Halt Rennes’ Win Streak
Visitors Have Won Three Straight in Ligue 1
Rennes, Ligue 1’s hottest team, will head on the road to Lyon for an important late-season match. Rennes are on a three-game winning streak in the league, but Lyon’s revamped defense will be confident of putting a stop to it.
The soccer odds favor the home side, which makes sense given the poor form on the road from Rennes. OL have struggled vs Rennes for a while, so this could be more of a toss-up than imagined.

Lyon vs Rennes Betting Preview Head-to-Head
Rennes destroyed Lyon 4-1 in Brittany earlier this season as Adrien Truffert scored a second-half double. Lyon did win 1-0 at the Groupama Stadium last season but that stands as SRFC’s only loss in the last five meetings, home or away. Rennes had also won four consecutive matches at Lyon prior to last season’s loss.
Lyon Continues Perfect Europa League Run
Lyon got one foot in the Europa League quarterfinals on Wednesday by beating FC Porto 1-0 on the road. Lucas Paqueta found the net from a clever Moussa Dembele pass in the second half on a goal originally called offside, but overturned by far. Lyon stunned the Portuguese league leaders by handing Porto their first loss in three months and ending their run of 21 games with a goal.
OL are now a perfect 7-0 in the Europa League and have been a great pick to bet online. In Ligue 1, it’s been a different story, though OL are showing signs of life lately.
Last Friday, Lyon battered Lorient 4-1 on the road as Romain Faivre scored his first two goals for the club. It was the bounce back they needed from a disappointing 1-0 home defeat to Lille.
Just five points behind Rennes, Lyon will fancy their chances of moving into the European places before the season is over. After all, they do have one of the most exciting attacking trios in the league with Karl Toko Ekambi, Dembele and Paqueta.
For this match, center back Jerome Boateng is out with a hamstring injury. Defender Sinaly Diomande and midfielder Rayan Cherki are also out.
Rennes Have Ligue 1 Longest Winning Streak
Rennes fell 2-0 on the road to Leicester City in the first leg of their UEFA Conference League Round of 16 tie on Thursday. The visitors were lively and created chances but only managed to put one shot on Kasper Schmeichel’s goal.
The loss ended a three-game winning streak for Rennes, but they’ve been playing very well in Ligue 1. Despite being in fourth place, Rennes have the second-best goal difference in the league behind PSG and have won their last three Ligue 1 matches by a multi-goal margin.
Most recently in the league, Rennes beat Angers 2-0 as Benjamin Bourigeaud and Gaetan Laborde got on the scoresheet. With the win, they moved ahead of Strasbourg in fourth place and are just one point behind Marseille for the third and final Champions League berth.
With 11 games remaining, Rennes are in the best form in the league and could continue to be one of the best late-season soccer picks. Both Martin Terrier and Laborde have surpassed the 10-goal mark in the league, spearheading Ligue 1’s second-best attack.
Rennes do have a weakness and it is playing on the road. This season, they’ve gained 31 points at home but just 15 away. They’ve lost four of their last five road matches in Ligue 1.
Loic Bade and Kamaldeen Sulemana are on the injury report and could miss out on Sunday.
Lyon vs Rennes Prediction
Lyon have conceded just three goals in their last five matches in all competitions as youngster Castello Lukeba has emerged as a promising center back. OL haven’t faced an attack as strong as Rennes’ since drawing 1-1 with PSG in January, but are proving more than capable of limiting their opponents’ chances.
Rennes, on the other hand, have been abysmal on the road but have played well at the Groupama Stadium in recent years. For online sports betting, a draw looks like the best value for Sunday’s match as both teams come in with tired legs.
