Winless in their previous three Bundesliga fixtures, Mainz will be looking to bounce back on Saturday against RB Leipzig. You can live-bet on the German top-flight league action by using our sportsbook.
Mainz: Poor Form
The form of Mainz has been inconsistent, leaving them 12th in the table, although they are just three points off Eintracht Frankfurt in sixth. One player who has found early form this season is forward Karim Onisiwo, the Austrian netting three times in the Bundesliga already, and he will be key if Mainz is to pull off the upset and win at least one point against RB Leipzig.
Before last weekend’s defeat to Freiburg, they rescued a late point at home to Hertha Berlin when, despite dominating most of the match, it took an added time Anthony Caci equalizer to avoid defeat. Manager Bo Svensson guided Mainz to eighth in his first full season at the helm, so finishing in the Europa Conference League places would be the objective for this season.
For Mainz, Marlon Mustapha looks set to miss Saturday’s game, while Marcus Ingvartsen and defender Maxim Leitsch are both rated as doubtful. Mainz is usually a solid team at home, but given their recent defeats and lack of attacking firepower, we won’t include them in our soccer picks and parlays.
RB Leipzig: Back to Winning Ways
The international break was exactly what RB Leipzig needed. They sacked Domenico Tedesco, who left them 11th in the standings, appointing former Dortmund manager Marco Rose as head coach. They finally bounced back last weekend, destroying Bochum 4-0 on home soil, and they doubled that with a convincing 3-1 victory against Celtic in the Champions League midweek action.
As always, Christopher Nkunku is the player to watch for the visitors. He scored three goals in his last two appearances for the club across all competitions. On top of that, Andre Silva finally found his scoring boots netting a brace against Celtic and offering the assist for Nkunku. Leipzig is now a point behind second-placed Shakhtar, with three group games still to play.
The bad news for the Red Bull team is that their main keeper Peter Gulacsi suffered a serious injury against Celtic, an anterior cruciate ligament tear in his right knee, and will be out for a lengthy period of time. Still, RB Leipzig’s attacking firepower should be enough for the visitors to return home with the three points, so if you’re betting online, make sure you back them.
Mainz vs RB Leipzig Head-to-Head
Mainz slumped to a 2-1 defeat at Freiburg last weekend, stretching their record to just one league win in five Bundesliga matches. They have the worst attacking record on home soil, with just one goal scored in three games in front of their fans, but they boast a pretty good record against the visitors at least, losing only one of the last five home mutual encounters at this venue. Away form is a key reason why Leipzig has not been able to add more consistency to their game, and only Bochum has picked up fewer away points. Timo Werner has scored 13 goals across 13 Bundesliga games against Mainz, more than against any other club.

Mainz vs RB Leipzig Prediction
The visitors enter this clash as slight favorites priced at +130 on the three-way moneyline according to the latest soccer odds, while the goal line is set at 2½.
Mainz picked up its first victory after four attempts against Die Roten Bullen last season, and despite their poor form on home soil, they will be determined to return to winning ways against one of their favorite opponents. On the other hand, RB Leipzig enters this clash full of confidence, and despite being without their main keeper, they are brilliant going forward.
We expect a very intense match, with RB Leipzig having the first chance to pick up the three points, but we expect at least three goals on the scoresheet.
