This will be the first meeting between Marseille and Galatasaray.

Marseille’s Undefeated Start Thwarted

Marseille has been one of the more solid recent soccer picks and managed to go undefeated in the first seven games of the season in all competitions. Last weekend, Marseille suffered its first defeat in a 3-2 shootout with Lens.

Marseille has an exciting group of young players and has the ability to contend for a Champions League place in Ligue 1. However, Marseille will be kicking itself for its Europa League opening 1-1 draw vs Lokomotiv Moscow. Visiting Marseille dominated possession and got a second-half penalty goal from Cengiz Ünder.

Entering the closing stages of the match with a man advantage, Marseille conceded in the 89th minute. Substitute and Chelsea loanee Tino Anjorin took matters into his own hands and scored an impressive solo goal. In a group that also features a tricky Lazio side, Marseille could have missed out on a crucial three points.

While Marseille made the Europa League final in 2018, it has struggled in its last two continental competition appearances. It finished last in both its group in the Champions League last season and in the 2018-19 Europa league.

Galatasaray Missed Out on the Champions League

The 2020-21 Süper Lig season wasn’t supposed to come down to the wire. Besiktas led Galatasaray on points (75-69) with five games remaining. Then, the former lost two of its final five games, while Galatasaray swept its remaining season slate.

Level on points, Galatasaray frustratingly missed out on the title and an automatic Champions League berth by a single goal. Galatasaray was comprehensively defeated by PSV 7-2 on aggregate in the second qualifying round and has started off its domestic season slowly.

Galatasaray sits 10th in the league after seven matches and has been a disappointing pick for betting online. However, Galatasaray picked up an important 1-0 victory vs Lazio in its Europa League opener, scoring on a Lazio own goal. Three more points here could go a long way toward qualification for the knockout stages.

There are a bunch of familiar faces on Galatasaray’s roster. They include longtime Uruguay national team keeper Fernando Muslera, American wingback DeAndre Yedlin, Premier League veteran left-back Patrick van Aanholt, and former Barcelona winger Arda Turan. Turan is out with an injury but this is not a Galatasaray side to be underestimated, even if it has lost two of its last three league matches.

At +375 in the BetUS sportsbook, Galatasaray has just a 21 percent implied probability of winning on the road. Looking at Galatasaray’s defensive record, that number starts to make sense. In 14 matches in all competitions, Galatasaray has kept just two clean sheets.

Before a 2-1 win at the weekend, Galatasaray went through a two-game stretch in the Turkish League in which it was outscored 4-0. Marseille did suffer a tough loss to Lens but still managed to get on the scoresheet twice.

In fact, Marseille has scored two or more goals in six of its eight matches in all competitions. Against a Galatasaray side that has conceded left and right, Marseille should pick up its first Europa League win here.
