Marseille: Great on the Road, Bad at Home

Defeats to Lyon and Rennes saw Marseille lose their second spot in the Ligue 1 standings. They are now sitting third, equal on points with second-placed AS Monaco with the Monegasque having a better goal difference. Finishing second could ensure that they qualify for the group stage of the Champions League alongside PSG, while third would put them in the third qualifying round of the European Cup.

Marseille, who lost to Feyenoord in the semifinals of the Europa Conference League, will enter this match on the back of a disappointing 2-0 defeat on the road to Rennes. They failed to contribute on the scoreboard but more than that they recorded zero shots on target. They might even lose the third spot if they lose this clash and Rennes manages to beat Lille on the road, so the entire pressure is on Jorge Sampaoli and his troops.

Marseille coach Jorge Sampaoli is being questioned at the club and the dressing room has lost faith in him. His decisions have already caused controversy in the squad with several big names being out in many games. This has made the board consider whether he should continue ahead of next season. Star striker Milik has said internally next season that he will not stay for next term if Sampaoli remains in charge.

In case he fails to qualify in the next season’s Champions League groups, Sampaoli will probably get sacked after the last round of fixtures. It’s not exactly the best time to back Marseille given their internal issues and their huge ups and downs so we will not include them in our Soccer picks and parlays

Strasbourg: In-Form

Three teams separated by two points in the standings, Rennes, Strasbourg, and Nice, are fighting for the final two European spots with one round to go till the end of the season. Strasbourg is sitting fifth, just two points behind Rennes but equal on points with Nice in sixth.

Strasbourg has enjoyed a superb season by their standards, and could yet qualify for Europe for the first time since 2020 when they won the French Cup which gave them access to the Europa League. Their biggest weapon is their attacking line as they have the fourth attack in the league after PSG, Rennes, and Lyon with 60 goals scored in 37 games. They enter this match on the back of two short 1-0 wins over Brest and Clermont and in case they win it, they have a good chance to qualify for one of the top European competitions.

Strasbourg has finished 15th, 11th, 10thand 15th in the France Ligue 1 since earning promotion back so this season they have punched above their weight. Strasbourg has been one of Ligue 1’s surprise packages this season, as they have enjoyed an eye-catching campaign and continuously found themselves in the race for a top-four finish. No matter what, this will be their best finish since their Ligue 1 return. Strasbourg will be almost back to full strength for the weekend which is something to consider if you’re betting online.

Marseille vs Strasbourg Head-to-Head

Since earning promotion back to Ligue 1, Strasbourg is winless against Marseille losing six of their 10 mutual encounters across all competitions including a 2-0 defeat at home in the reverse fixture. Marseille dropped points in 10 of their 18 home games losing five and conceding 22 goals in the process. On the other side, Strasbourg lost just five games on the road all season long scoring 24 goals in the process. Marseille vs Strasbourg Predictions

The hosts enter this clash as slight favorites being priced at +115 on the three-way moneyline according to the latest soccer odds while the goal line is set at 2½.

Marseille has the tendency to concede goals this season but this is probably the most important match of the campaign for the hosts as they are trying to secure a Champions League spot. They have amazing attacking firepower but they will still be without their star striker Dimitri Payet who’s still injured so we don’t expect them to score many goals.

Given their great record against Strasbourg, Marseille should have enough to win this clash but it’s risky to back them after they failed to find the back of the net in three of their last four games across all competitions. This game has all the ingredients to finish in a draw and stay under 2½ goals.

Pick: Under 2½ goals in the match at +110
