Minnesota United FC vs Portland Timbers Predictions, Preview, Stream, Odds & Picks

Playoff Positioning at Stake

Although there are four points dividing the Loons and the Timbers, Minnesota currently sits in third place in the Western Conference standings while Portland is in eighth.

With both Portland and the seventh-place Galaxy owning 30 points, a win for the Timbers would help in the race for a spot in the playoffs. However, Minnesota may not be where Portland gets it done.

While both teams have been solid lately, with the Loons winning four of five and the Timbers three of five, Portland hasn’t been strong on the road, with a record of 2-4-5. However, MLS odds still give the Timbers a fighting chance.

Let’s check the latest MLS news, stats, injury reports, and MLS odds for Minnesota United FC vs Portland Timbers Predictions. We’ve plenty of MLS picks and predictions for you to consider.

No Reynoso, No Problem

The Loons were able to grab a win over Houston on July 23 and rise to third in the Western Conference without their leading scorer in the lineup.

Forward Emmanuel Reynoso, who leads Minnesota with nine goals and five assists, missed the game against Houston due to an ankle injury that came in Minnesota’s previous game, a 4-0 win over Everton.

Despite Reynoso being sidelined, Minnesota got the win, defeating Houston 2-1.

Forward Bongokuhle Hlongwane stepped up in Reynoso’s absence, scoring one of Minnesota’s goals and assisting on the other. Forward Franco Fragapane scored the other goal for the Loons.

While Minnesota manager Adrian Heath is optimistic Reynoso will return against Portland, the Loons have shown they’ll be fine without him if he doesn’t.

A Push for Playoffs

While the Timbers started out the season struggling, going 2-3-5 in their first 10 games, Portland has started to turn things around.

Following their 2-1 win over San Jose on July 23, the Timbers are undefeated in their last seven games, winning four and coming to a draw in three.

The turnaround follows a three-game losing streak in May and looks similar to last season when Portland made a push for the playoffs as well.

Last season, Portland finished the regular season unbeaten with a record of 6-0-1 to finish fourth in the conference for a postseason run, while this season, the Timbers’ recent run is giving them a chance for a playoff spot once more.

With Portland just on the outside looking in, the Timbers will be looking to get an upset in Minnesota.
