The 33rd edition of the African Cup was scheduled for 2021, but you know, COVID-19. Now, against the will of FIFA and some clubs, it will take place from January 9 to February 6 in Cameroon.

Algeria will be defending the title, but there are a lot of contenders that could pull off the betting online upset. The list includes Morocco and Ghana, favorites to advance in Group C. Winning the first game is crucial, so you can expect quite a show.

Morocco, Ghana Collide in African Cup

Morocco’s Offensive Power

Some people think that the best defense it’s a good offense. Vahid Halilhodžić, Morocco’s head coach, is one of those.

Morocco is on its way to the 2022 World Cup after winning its six first qualifying games by an aggregate of 20-1. Only Algeria has scored more goals with 25. Regarding the qualifiers for the African Cup, Morocco won Group E with a 4-2-0 record, 10 goals for and only one against.

Their roster includes Achraf Hakimi, considered one of the best right backs/wings in the world. It also includes Youssef En-Nesyri and Munir El Haddadi, who play together for Sevilla. Their chemistry is enviable.

Defensively, goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, who also plays for Sevilla, is having a great season. No other team has allowed fewer goals than Sevilla, and he has a lot to do with that. No wonder Sevilla is closing the gap on Real Madrid in La Liga.

As you can see, we’re talking about a well-balanced team. Morocco definitely deserves to be in control of the soccer lines at +110.

Morocco’s predicted lineup: Yassine Bounou; Sofyan Amrabat, Nayef Aguerd, Imran Louza, Achraf Hakimi; Romain Saiss, Aymen Barkok, Sofiane Boufal, Adam Masina; Munir El Haddadi, Youssef En-Nesyri.

Ghana’s Resistance

Just like Morocco, Ghana won its group on the road to the African Cup. In this case, they did it with a 4-1-1 record, nine goals for and three against. Here’s another difference: They faced a much more complicated opponent in South Africa.

Milovan Rajevac, Ghana’s head coach, thinks very differently than Halilhodzic. Since he took over, Ghana plays 5-3-2, seeking to win possession and relying on the counter-attack.

Defensively, veteran Jonathan Mensah is the leader. He currently is a member of the Columbus Crew in MLS, but previously played in La Liga and the Serie A.

Offensively, the leader is Thomas Partey, who plays for Arsenal in the English Premier League. Besides Mohamed Salah (Egypt), I think Partey is the most dangerous player in the tournament. With the Gunners, he usually plays in midfield, but Rajevac likes to place him up front. He’s the main reason for you to consider including them in your soccer pick.

Ghana’s predicted lineup: Abdul Manaf Nurudeen; Daniel Amartey, Alexander Djiku, Joseph Paintsil, Jonathan Mensah, Samuel Owusu; Richmond Boakye, Gideon Mensah, Edmund Addo; Abdul Fatawu Issahaku; Thomas Partey.

These two met for the last time in June. It was a friendly match and Morocco won 1-0 with a goal from Jawad El Yamiq. Both started their best players, so it really is a taste of what to expect.

Regarding the African Cup, they’ve collided three times, all in the Group Stage. The last time was in 2008 and Ghana won 2-0.

Morocco vs Ghana Madrid Prediction

The first game of a short tournament is always tricky. Usually both teams are cautious, but at the end of the day, I think Morocco’s offensive power is too much. Ghana recently played a friendly match with Algeria and lost 3-0, giving Morocco some ideas on how to beat them.

I do expect Ghana to put up a better fight than that, but it won’t be enough. That’s why you should include Morocco scoring more than 1½ goals in your sports betting ticket. Hakimi and Munir will have a great game.

Score Prediction: Morocco 2, Ghana 1

Pick: Morocco Over 1½ Goals (+165)
