Wednesday night MLS soccer action features an extensive 10-game slate. In one of the best matches of the night, Orlando City (8-4-6, 30 points, fourth East) heads to Tennessee to take on Nashville SC (7-2-10, 31 points, third East).
This will be the first meeting of the season between these two teams, who are both in prime playoff position in the Eastern Conference. Nashville’s 13-game home unbeaten streak dating back to last season is on the line.
Game: Nashville SC vs Orlando City
Location: Nissan Stadium, Nashville, TN
Time: Wednesday, 8:30 p.m. ET
Head to Head
Nashville made its MLS debut in 2020 so there have only been three meetings between the two sides. In the three meetings last season, each team won a game apiece and played to a draw.
Nashville Snagging Points at Home
Nissan Stadium has been an Achilles heel for opposing teams this season. Nashville has an excellent record of seven wins and five draws at home.
Nashville is coming off a resounding 5-2 win over D.C. United, its second five-goal outburst in the past month. Frederic Brillant opened up the scoring for the visitors but forward C.J Sapong put Nashville ahead with a first half brace. Midfielder Alex Muyl added two goals of his own and forward Hany Mukhtar got on the scoresheet as well. All the while, veteran midfielder Dax McCarty made his 400th MLS appearance.
Nashville has been a good bet at home with a 7-5 ATS record. They have also been one of the best picks in the league as of late with a 7-3 ATS record in their last 10 games.
Nashville was on a nine-game unbeaten streak before a 2-1 loss to Inter Miami on Aug. 8, which included a draw vs MLS points leaders New England. Sapong and Mukhtar are joint top scorers for Nashville with eight goals apiece.
Orlando Struggling on Road
Orlando City is winless in its last four away matches. The Lions picked up a point vs FC Cincinnati last weekend as Nani equalized in the second half of a 1-1 draw. Nani has been Orlando City’s MVP, leading the team in both goals and assists with nine and six, respectively.
The former Manchester United and Portugal winger has averaged over one goal and assist per game and is a dangerous proposition for any defense. However, Star forward Daryl Dike was not in the squad vs FC Cincinnati or midweek vs Santos Laguna in the Leagues Cup. The U.S. international is rumored to be on his way back to England.
Orlando City has dealt with its fair share of injuries and they definitely played a huge role in a recent 5-0 defeat at the hands of NYCFC. Orlando City has gotten a few key players back since then but its away form is still concerning. The Lions have managed just a 1-2-2 ATS record in their last five away games, but do have a 4-2-4 ATS record in their last 10 matches overall.
Nashville has been a soccer betting darling lately and I don’t expect that to change here. The soccer odds for Nashville to win are favorable at +110, especially vs an Orlando team that hasn’t been in the best form. Nashville is riding high, coming off of a five goal performance and I expect its home unbeaten streak to extend to 14 matches.
