They last met just over a month ago. Nashville SC defeated Toronto FC 3-2 at home thanks to Jack Maher and Luke Haakenson (two goals). Jonathan Osorio and Patrick Mullins scored for the visitors. During that game, Nashville overcame a one-goal deficit twice.
Their previous matchup was at Rentschler Field, Connecticut, which means this will be the first time they collide in Toronto.
Why bet on Toronto FC?
After losing 7-1 to DC United (ouch!), Toronto FC is on a little hot streak. They haven’t lost in their last four games. That includes beating the New England Revolution 3-2 and most recently Chicago Fire 2-1.
Goalkeeper Alex Bono and recently signed midfielder Yeferson Soteldo were great against Chicago. Bono finished with 13 saves and Soteldo scored the opening goal. In fact, both were named to the MLS Team of the Week.
“That new guy we signed is a problem. That guy can dribble through traffic on the 401. It’s pretty impressive what he’s brought to us,” said Bono about Soteldo. He’s not wrong, but teamwork comes first. A total of 14 different players have scored at least one goal. No other team has had more than 11 different goalscorers in 2021.
Toronto has played the majority of their games on the road. They’re 1-3-2 when playing at home, 1-4-1 against the spread, and 2-4 over/under. If they want to reach the Playoffs, they’ve to transform BMO Field into a fortress starting now.
Richie Laryea, Jonathan Osorio, and Ayo Akinola are out. They need some rest after playing the CONCACAF Gold Cup with Canada. Their expected lineup is Alex Bono; Marco Delgado, Omar Gonzalez, Chris Mavinga, Luke Singh; Michael Bradley, Ralph Priso, Tsubasa Endoh, Alejandro Pozuelo, Yeferson Soteldo; Dom Dwyer.
Why Bet on Nashville SC?
Nashville SC has seven straight games without losing, winning four. Also, they scored at least one goal in six of those games and finished with a clean sheet three times.
Most recently, they crushed Cincinnati FC 3-0. C.J Sapong scored twice to increase his season total to five goals. Randall Leal scored the other one. Individually, Harry Mukhtar leads the team with seven goals.
“Having a couple games under our belt, there’s definitely chemistry there. It just makes things a lot easier when you learn the tendencies of your teammates,” said Sapong about playing with Mukhtar and Leal.
They’ve also been good defensively. They’ve allowed only 14 goals, second-best in the league behind Columbus Crew and Seattle Sounders (12).
Curiously, Nashville hasn’t won a single game on the road, they’re 0-3-1. They also are 2-1-1 against the spread and 1-3 over/under. If they want to catch up with New England they’ve to start winning away from home.
Alistair Johnson and Walker Zimmerman are out due to the Gold Cup. Their expected lineup is Joe Willis; Eric Miller, Jalil Anibaba, David Romney; Dylan Nealis, Brian Anunga, Dax McCarty, Taylor Washington, Randall Leal; C.J. Sapong, Hany Mukhtar.
Final Analysis and Predictions
It’s going to be a battle. Toronto FC can’t afford to lose more points at home. Nashville SC has to win in order to keep up with New England. I think Toronto;s absences are more significant, but that doesn’t mean they won’t put up a fight.
If there’s a game to go with the sports betting underdog this weekend is definitely this one. Nashville’s confidence is up to the roof and their attacking unit is in sync.
