Winless Newcastle Welcomes Tottenham Amid a Revolution

Newcastle’s last glory days were led by Alan Shearer, who retired in 2006. Nowadays, the Tyneside club is fighting to avoid relegation, but things are about to change. A multi-millionaire investment group bought the club and already promised upgrades for the stadium, training ground, academy, and more. Meanwhile, they’ve to turn things around on the field and start winning, otherwise, attracting top players will be difficult.

Their renewed hope and motivation will be tested by Tottenham. The Spurs already have top players, but they’ve had a rocky start. Both should have taken advantage of the international break to figure some things out and offer us a showdown.

Head to Head

  • Previous Matches: 164
  • Newcastle Victories: 59 (236 goals)
  • Tottenham Victories: 71 (263 goals)
  • Draws: 34

Last season, they met twice. First, they drew 1-1 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The visitors were able to even the score thanks to a last-minute penalty. Later, they drew 2-2 at St. James Park. Harry Kane was the Man of the Match after scoring twice for the Spurs.

Tottenham won five of their last 10 meetings, but Newcastle have always put up a fight. The total went over in five of those 10 games with Tottenham failing to score only once. If there’s something you can expect from these two, it’s goals. A game between them hasn’t finished 0-0 since the 1971-72 season.

Isn’t too Late

Yes, Newcastle financial problems are solved, but what about their problems on the field? We’re only seven games into the season, but the Tyneside club is already in trouble. They own a 0-3-4 record, good enough for 19th place.

The investment group desires Newcastle to become the new Manchester City. The Citizens faced a similar situation and now are among the elite. The thing is that new players won’t start coming until January, and they’ve to start winning now.

I do believe they’ve enough talent to turn things around, or at least to survive. This could be Steve Bruce’s last game as their manager. Rumor has it Antonio Conte could take over soon. Either way, the manager can expect a fierce internal competition. No player will want to be fired now that the club will constantly be under the spotlight.

Nothing to brag about, but they’ve been a more viable betting online option when playing at home. They’re 0-2-1, 1-1-1 against the spread, and 2-1 over/under. The Magpies have scored at least one goal in six of their seven games.

They deserve to be home underdogs, but don’t underestimate them. Better said, don’t underestimate the effect of a revolution like the one they’re experiencing.

No major injuries or absences to report here. Fabian Schar, Ryan Fraser, Jeff Hendrick, and Emil Krafth will be back after playing in the World Cup Qualifiers.

Back on Track

Tottenham started the season on the right foot, but then Harry Kane came back, and everything changed. Don’t get me wrong, he’s an excellent player, but he became too much of a distraction since the preseason.

The Spurs currently sit in eighth place with 12 points thanks to a 4-0-3 record, six goals for and 10 against. Most recently, they ended a three-game losing streak by beating Aston Villa 2-1 thanks to an own goal.

That victory allowed them to regain some much-needed confidence. I mean, a team with Kane, Son Heung-min, Lucas Moura, Tanguy Ndombele, and Giovani Lo Celso shouldn’t suffer that much. Six goals is ridiculous for such a team, but they recently showed some improvement.

Playing on Sunday will allow all Tottenham’s South American players to be available. We’re talking about Lo Celso, Cristian Romero, Emerson Royal, and Davinson Sanchez, who recently played in the World Cup Qualifiers.

“The news we have is that they all finished the matches well, so it’s about recovering and then, together, we have to assess them and then decide,” said manager Nuno Espirito Santo in an interview.

They’ve had more problems when playing on the road. They’re 1-0-2, 1-2 against the spread and 2-1 over/under. I know that could be enough for you to not include them in your soccer picks. Nevertheless, I can assure they’re better than that.

Final Analysis, Predictions

Newcastle come in as the new sensation, but Tottenham come in as the better team. Both had enough time to prepare for this contest, but the Spurs depth and experience should make the difference. Newcastle renewed motivation will be enough to put up a fight, but not to win.

Don’t forget to check the props our sportsbook is offering for this and other games to increase your winning chances. Our score prediction is offering a +750 price. Tottenham scored two or more goals in three of their last four games in all competitions. If you want to mix things up a little, go with six to eight corners at +240.
