RB Leipzig Team to Beat
Hannover and RB Leipzig face each other at HDI-Arena in a highly anticipated DFB Pokal clash while revived Union Berlin will be determined to book their semifinals spot on Tuesday against St. Pauli. Our sportsbook is offering a great range of markets and props for the top European soccer leagues.
Hannover vs. RB Leipzig
Hannover aims to build on back-to-back wins over St. Pauli and Holstein Kiel in the German second-tier league, but they will have a mountain to climb in the German Cup clash as they face the most consistent Bundesliga team in 2022. They enter this clash as underdogs being priced at +590 on the three-way moneyline according to the latest soccer odds.
|Hannover||+1½ -130||+590||3 -125o||½ -155o
|RB Leipzig||-1½ Ev||-250||3 -105u||2½ +125o
They qualified to the quarterfinals by beating Regionalliga-North side Norderstedt, Dusseldorf and Gladbach, keeping three clean sheets and scoring 10 goals. They are part of Germany’s second-tier league, but they are closer to the relegation zone than to a promotion place. This is by far the toughest game of the season for them. They became the fourth Bundesliga 2 side to reach the quarterfinals of this season’s DFB-Pokal, joining Hamburger SV, FC St. Pauli and Karlsruher SC. The Lower Saxony side knocked out Bundesliga club Gladbach with a 3-0 win, with the Foals being unable to muster a response
On the other side, last season’s finalists, RB Leipzig, didn’t need long to score against Hansa Rostock. A long cross from Lukas Klostermann found Yussuf Poulsen unmarked, as he easily headed in to make it 1-0 after just six minutes. The visitors are the most in-shape side in the top-flight league, winning eight of 10 games across all competitions in 2022. Christopher Nkunku came off the bench to score the only goal of the game as RB Leipzig edged Bochum at the Ruhrstadion last weekend. He has scored in four straight Bundesliga games and has seven goals in 2022. Only Bayern Munich star striker Robert Lewandowski with nine has more goals.
There is no doubt Nkunku has fierce competition for places in the French national team, with Deschamps probably able to name two squads that could compete on the world stage. If he keeps firing in every single match, we will definitely see him perform for his country at the World Cup as he’s one of the best players in the business. Leipzig is the only Bundesliga team still playing in three competitions, thanks in no small part to Nkunku’s 23 goals and 11 assists across 35 fixtures in the Bundesliga, DFB Cup and UEFA Champions League/Europa League. There’s no way we will go against RB Leipzig, given their form and attacking firepower, so we will keep including them in our soccer picks and parlays.
Pick: RB Leipzig -1½ (Ev)
Union Berlin vs. St. Pauli
Bundesliga outfit Union Berlin will be bidding to reach the semifinals of the DFB-Pokal when they welcome second-tier side St Pauli to Berlin on Tuesday. The hosts returned to winning ways last weekend by beating Mainz 3-1 on home soil, their first victory in over a month. Union Berlin has never won the DFB-Pokal, but they reached the final of the competition back in 2001, losing to Schalke 04, and they have an excellent chance to reach the last four this time.
They needed some time to adapt after losing their most influential player, Max Kruse, in the January transfer window. Without him, Taiwo Awoniyi and Guido Burgstaller figure to be their main source of goals. Awoniyi ended a seven-game club drought by scoring against Mainz in a convincing win. Union Berlin suffered a 3-2 defeat to St Pauli when the two teams last locked horns in the second tier of German football in February 2019, but the Bundesliga outfit were 4-1 winners in their last mutual encounter in Berlin.
St Pauli shocked Borussia Dortmund in the last round in the middle of January, knocking them out of the cup in an entertaining 2-1 win. They appear to have returned to form just in time for their visit to the German capital. Guido Burgstaller is Pauli’s top scorer in the DFB Cup with two goals scored. He also leads the scoring chart in Bundesliga 2 with 17 goals netted in 24 games. St. Pauli is fighting for a Bundesliga spot, trailing leaders Werder Bremen by just one point. If you’re betting online you should understand that cup games are tough to call because many teams in the lower leagues manage to pull off huge upsets. Given Union’s problems and St. Pauli’s great form, we are going with goals.
Pick: Over 2½ goals (-145)
