Orlando City Wants Revenge on Red Bulls

Orlando Could Climb to Top of Eastern Conference

Orlando City has only lost one game this season, 2-1 against the New York Red Bulls. That result left them two points behind the New England Revolution at the top of the MLS Eastern Conference.

After losing that game, Orlando won the next three matches by a 10-2 aggregate. Now, they’ll be looking for some revenge against a team that’s struggling to stay in the Playoffs zone. Let’s take a look at the latest news, stats, injury reports and the MLS Odds for Orlando vs New York. We’ve plenty of predictions for you to consider!

  • New York Red Bulls Victories: 7 (22 goals)

The New York Red Bulls won the previous matchup. That was their fifth victory in their last 10 games against Orlando City. They’re 5-1-4 during that span, scored 14 goals and allowed 12. They also finished with a clean sheet three times and failed to score twice.

Orlando last defeated New York last season at home, winning 3-1 thanks to Daryl Dike, Junior Urso and Antonio Carlos.

The two sides have never drawn 0-0.

Why bet on Orlando City?

Orlando City is on fire. That’s why they deserve to be the sports betting favorite here. Most recently, they defeated Toronto FC 3-2, the San Jose Earthquakes 5-0 and Inter Miami 2-1, just as we predicted. They have 21 points on a 6-3-1 record, good enough for second place in the Eastern Conference.

They’re a very well-balanced team. Offensively, they’ve scored 18 goals, tied for the most in the conference with the Revolution and New York City FC. Defensively, they share the best record with Columbus Crew after allowing only seven goals.

“We’ve shown a lot of character. Our depth and strength are amazing. We can win pretty much anywhere,” said Chris Mueller after beating Miami.

Orlando remains unbeaten at home with a 3-2-0 record. They also are 3-2 against the spread and 1-3-1 over/under. Despite being a veteran, Nani is playing some of his best football, leading the team in scoring with six goals.

The chemistry of the team is enviable. Mueller and Tesho Akindele lead the team in assists with four each. There’s no room for selfishness in this locker room.

The roster is eager to rewrite history. They haven’t won more than three straight matches since a club-record six straight wins from March-May 2018.

Their expected lineup is Brandon Austin; Michael Halliday, Robin Jansson, Antonio Carlos, Kyle Smith; Benji Michel, Junior Urso, Andres Perea, Christopher Mueller; Nani, Daryl Dike.

Why Bet on the Red Bulls?

The New York Red Bulls won two of their last four games. Most recently, they lost 3-2 to the first-place Revolution. They showed some character after being down 3-0. They also drew 0-0 against Atlanta United.

“What I am most proud of is how many different guys stepped up. How every guy starting or off the bench was able to just empty the tank,” said midfielder Sean Davis after the game in Atlanta.

Overall, they have 13 points thanks to a 4-1-5 record. That’s good enough for seventh place. They’ve scored 14 goals and allowed 13. They own the worst defensive record among the first 10 places in the conference.

On the road, their record is 0-1-4. If they want to make it into the Playoffs, they need to start winning away from home. They also are 1-3-1 against the spread and 3-2 over/under when playing on the road.

Caden Clark, Andres Reyes and Tom Edwards are questionable due to injury. Cristian Casseres is out due to international commitments. Their expected lineup is Carlos Coronel; Amro Tarek, Sean Nealis, Andrew Gutman; Kyle Duncan, Sean Davis, Dru Yearwood, John Tolkin, Wikelman Carmona; Patryk Kimala, Tom Barlow.

Final Analysis, Predictions

Neither team has ever won consecutive matches against the other. I think that trend will continue as Orlando City is too strong when playing at home. Orlando’s depth could be a factor here since New York has more absent players.

Orlando City scored at least one goal in its last nine goals in all competitions. New York scored two goals in three of their last four matches. Expect both to score and the total to go over three goals.
