Orlando City vs New York Red Bulls Prediction, Preview, Stream, Odds and Picks

Both Qualified for the Postseason in 2022

What better way to start the 2023 MLS season than with a matchup between betting online dark horses to win the Eastern Conference. Orlando City will be led by Ercan Kara, while the New York Red Bulls will be led by Lewis Morgan. In other words, you can expect a back-and-forth battle for which the home side is slightly favored.

Orlando: They Want More

Last season, Orlando City barely managed to qualify for the playoffs. The Lions finished seventh in the Eastern Conference with 48 points. They ended up losing 2-0 in the first round against CF Montreal.

Nevertheless, they also won the first trophy in club history. That’s right, the Lions won the US Open Cup after defeating Sacramento Republic in the Grand Finale 3-0. Facundo Torres was named Man of the Match after scoring a brace.

Now, their main goal is to finally win the MLS Cup. The talent is there, starting with Kara, who finished last season as the team’s top scorer with 11 goals. He was Orlando’s only player in double figures.

He’s going to have more help in the upcoming season, though. The Lions signed left-winger Martin Ojeda and center-striker Ramiro Enrique. Both used to play in the Liga Profesional of Argentina. The three of them have the potential to become the league’s scariest trio.

Such powerful attacking unit is the main reason for the home side to come in as the MLS betting odds  and soccer betting favorites at +145. That’s a great price considering the Lions won four of their last five matches at Exploria Stadium, scoring two or more goals in all four victories.

New York: Road Warriors

The New York Red Bulls also qualified for the postseason in 2022. They finished fourth in the Eastern Conference with 53 points. However, they also lost in the first round, 2-1 against FC Cincinnati.

Curiously enough, they were considerably better when playing on the road. In fact, they won their first seven road matches in all competitions, five in MLS, equaling the league record for road wins to start a season.

Morgan had a lot to do with that. He finished as the team’s top scorer with 14 goals. That’s nine goals less than the Golden Boot winner, but Morgan was followed by Luquinhas with five goals, meaning his contribution was huge.

They lost Patryk Klimala, who moved to Israel, but they signed Dante Vanzeir and Cory Burke. Vanzeir is a certified scorer who scored 10+ goals in four of the last five seasons. Most recently, he played for Union SG in the Belgian First Division A. As for Burke, he used to play for the Philadelphia Union, meaning he knows the league pretty well.

With all that in mind, I think it’s fair to say that the Red Bulls are a very tempting underdog to include in your MLS picks, especially at +205.

Orlando City vs New York Red Bulls Picks and Prediction

I’m not sure Orlando deserves to be the online gambling favorites. Don’t get me wrong, the Lions are a well-balanced team, but the Red Bulls are one of those teams that truly believes that the best defense is a good offense. That’s why I believe the total will go over 2½ goals, which is offering a +105 price, but not so fast, because the draw is offering a better price. The first game of the season is always tricky. Both will be happy with getting a point.

The New York is listed at +205 in our Vegas MLS lines. This means that if you wager $100 on New York, you have a chance to win $205. Orlando is +140, offering a chance to win $140 on a $100 wager.

The implied probability attached to the betting lines gives New York a 32.79% chance to win, with Orlando at 41.67%.
