América Struggles on Road

After a rough July in which they lost three of five games and drew another, Club América has won the last two games, both at home, to return to a tie for eighth place in the Apertura standings of Liga MX. They have lost all three games outside Mexico City in the Apertura.

On Saturday, they beat UNAM 3-0 on goals from Diego Valdes, Jonathan Rodriguez and Alejandro Zendejas. Henry Martin scored both goals in the 2-1 home win over Juarez on Aug. 7, and he also had both goals in the 3-2 loss at Leon on July 31.

Manager Fernando Ortiz typically lines up in a 4-2-3-1 with Martin as the striker. Valdes, Rodriguez and Zendejas run the midfield, and between them, they have five goals and one assist on the season.

Memo Ochoa has started all seven games in goal for América, and the only other player to play all 630 minutes this season is defender Luis Fuentes.

Ochoa has three clean sheets and 18 saves while allowing nine goals. Eight of the nine goals against the Mexican national team goalkeeper have come in four road games.

Pachuca Defend Home Field

Pachuca didn’t have a game over the weekend as their road match was called off due to cartel trouble in Juarez. With seven games played, one less than all but one other team in the top eight, Pachuca has 12 points and sits in fourth place.

They have played four games at home with two wins, two draws and three clean sheets. They have outscored opponents 5-1 in those four home games, including a 2-0 win over third-place UANL on Aug. 7.

Wednesday’s game starts a big stretch for the defending Clausura runners-up as they will play three straight home games before going to Toluca on Aug. 28.

Pachuca has scored seven goals while allowing four in manager Guillermo Almada’s system. Nicolas Ibanez has four of the seven goals while both Aviles Hurtado and Kevin Alvarez have two assists. Ibanez scored 11 goals last season, including two against América.

Oscar Ustari has started six of the seven games in goal, allowing three goals and making 17 saves. He has four clean sheets and has only lost one of his six starts.

Pachuca vs América Prediction

The soccer betting moneyline gives plenty of value on both teams, with host Pachuca at -105 and Club América at +280. These teams have a history of ties in their Liga MX matches, and a draw is +255. Pachuca has lost just twice at home since the start of the 2021-22 season and allowed one or less goals in 21 of the last 24 home games.

Both teams have experienced and veteran goalkeepers in Ochoa and Ustari. And goals should be at a premium on Wednesday night.

Even with Nick Martin in good form for América, they have struggled on the road, and Pachuca’s defense will make things more difficult.

When making soccer picks, betting on the under 2½ goals is the right way to go about this match.
