Panama: Squad rotation

Panama is out of the World Cup in Qatar for good and this game will be nothing more than a disappointing end to a poor qualifying campaign. They are sitting fifth with 18 points picked up in 13 games and that’s the furthest they can get. Panama’s race ended with the 5-1 loss to the USA in their last game. They had a slim chance before that defeat but Costa Rica’s 2-1 victory over El Salvador made it even more impossible.

The 5-1 loss to the USA was their worst defeat since being trashed 6-1 by England at the 2018 World Cup. They still have a chance to salvage some pride on Thursday when they host Canada. During this campaign, they played very aggressively being among the teams with the most bookings. Their inconsistency was the main reason for this disappointing campaign as they lost seven points from winning positions. Panama wasted a game against Honduras in what could have been a relatively easy win at home that ended in a 1-1 draw.

Panama can pile up goals, scoring 16 in the 13 games so far. Cecilio Waterman has seven, while Rolando Blackburn and Gabriel Torres both have four in the qualifying campaign. Blackburn scored the only goal Thursday night against Honduras in which his team recorded just one shot on goal. We expect many new faces in the starting XI with Thomas Christiansen eager to see some young players in action. Given the player’s morale, Panama is not a team to back so, we recommend you don’t include them in your soccer picks and parlays.

Canada: Back with a bang

Canada has qualified for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and will appear at the finals for the first time in 36 years. Their last appearance was in Mexico in 1986 in which they finished last in their group with three defeats against France, Hungary, and the Soviet Union conceding five goals in the process. Until last Thursday when they lost to Costa Rica, Canada has gone undefeated throughout the entirety of the qualification process.

They immediately bounced back beating Jamaica 4-0 in their penultimate qualifying match on Sunday and they are sitting top of the group before the final match of the qualifying campaign. The United States and Mexico have been their strongest opponents during these qualifiers, but they’ve earned four points from each of them.

They can’t lose the first spot in the standings so you would think they have nothing to play for but finishing on top of the Octagon standings could increase their odds of a generous draw on April 1. The visitors have been sensational when leading, winning all seven matches in this round of qualifying when scoring first and without a defeat since losing 3-2 to Haiti at the 2019 Gold Cup.

They will be happy with a draw and the most important thing for this clash is to stay healthy, so we expect a cagey and conservative clash. Coach John Herdman played a crucial role in getting the players to believe in themselves but he’s expected to give everyone a chance on Thursday against Panama so, we might see many key players on the bench. If you’re betting online you should always understand the meaning of each game you’re about to bet on for both sides.

Panama vs Canada Head-to-Head

Panama scored only once in the 4-1 defeat to Canada in the reverse fixture. The two mutual encounters before that ended in goalless draws. Canada has the best defense in the CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers and has allowed only six goals in 13 games while Panama’s attack is nothing to brag about. Canada has kept four clean sheets in their last five fixtures while Panama is unbeaten in 16 World Cup qualifying home games.

Panama vs Canada Predictions

Of course, Canada enters this clash as favorites being priced at -110 on the three-way money line according to the latest soccer odds while the goal line is set at two. Canada is on a great run and will want to finish on a high in their 2022 World Cup qualifiers. Their tickets are already booked and these two sides have nothing much to play for. Panama is out of the race so you would think that the best bet for this match would be Canada ML.

They go into this game with three clean sheets in four away matches in World Cup qualifiers and a run of three unbeaten matches against Panama. Five of the last six mutual encounters between the two sides produced a maximum of two goals. Given the circumstances, we don’t expect a high-scoring affair so we are taking the under.

Pick: Under 2 goals in the match at -110
