Liverpool will hope its stellar goal-scoring record continues when it travels to Portugal to take on FC Porto in a UEFA Champions League clash.
Both teams are currently undefeated in all competitions this season, which makes this an intriguing match. Liverpool is the current soccer betting favorite on the road and has scored nine goals in its last two matches at FC Porto.

Head to Head
Liverpool is undefeated vs FC Porto, with a 5-0-3 record. These teams met in the knockout stage of both the 2018 and 2019 editions of the UEFA Champions League.
In 2019, Liverpool defeated Porto 2-0 and 4-1 over two legs in the quarterfinal en route to UCL glory. In the 2018 round of 16, the Reds drew with Porto at home but picked up a resounding 5-0 win at the Estádio do Dragão.
Porto Missing Key Defenders
Porto opened up the Champions League by picking up a crucial point away at Atlético Madrid. The Porto defense, spearheaded by 38-year old Real Madrid legend Pepe and Chancel Mbemba, kept Luis Suarez and Antoine Griezmann at bay in the scoreless draw.
However, Mbemba picked up a last-minute red card vs Atlético and Pepe picked up a knock and both will miss the match vs Liverpool. We could see a center back pairing of Ivan Marcano and Fábio Cardoso, who haven’t played alongside each other yet.
FC Porto was a bit of a surprise pick for betting online in last year’s UCL. The Portuguese club shockingly defeated Juventus on away goals in the round of 16 last season before falling to eventual champions Chelsea 2-1 on aggregate in the quarters.
So far, Porto has started the season off solidly. Porto trails only Benfica in the Primeira Liga with five wins and two draws. Undefeated in eight matches in all competitions, Porto will face its toughest competition yet in Liverpool.
Porto has an excellent defensive record, conceding just four goals in all competitions, but its defense will be shaken up for this match.
Following the draw vs Atlético, Porto won 5-0 vs Moreirense and 2-1 vs Gil Vicente. In Luis Fernando Diaz, Mehdi Taremi and Toni Martinez, Porto has three players who have already scored three or more league goals. Taremi’s lofted goal from the edge of the center circle vs Gil was an exceptional bit of skill.
Liverpool Atop Premier League
Jurgen Klopp’s men endured a difficult season in 2020-21 but have started off the new campaign in style. Liverpool is 4-0-2 in the Premier League, which has been enough to secure the league’s top spot for now. At the weekend, the Reds drew with newly promoted Brentford 3-3 in a wild game in West London.
Liverpool has now scored three goals in five consecutive matches and is firing on all cylinders offensively. The three-headed attacking monster of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané and Diogo Jota has 12 goals through six Premier League matches.
The Reds got a scare in their Champions League opener vs Milan. The Rossoneri were ahead 2-1 at Anfield at halftime and looked like they could steal three points. Not content with its first half performance, Liverpool came back in the second half thanks to Salah and midfielder Jordan Henderson.
Liverpool has five clean sheets in eight matches this season and has been one of the better soccer picks around.
With Porto’s two best center backs out, this is absolutely a game that Liverpool should win. Klopp’s men will know that they need all of the points they can get in a difficult group and should be up to the task here.
At -140, Liverpool’s implied probability to win is 57.4 percent, which looks attractive for a squad that has put nine goals on Porto in the last two meetings in Portugal.
