Reigning Champions Perfect Through Three Matches in Ligue 1

Second Real Test?

Last week, PSG faced their first real test of the season and got an A-plus. In fact, their visit to Lille ended up being like a walk in the park. Consequently, the Parisians are now offering a -2500 price in the sportsbook to win the Ligue 1 title. They were -1000 prior to facing the Mastiffs.

On Sunday, PSG will face their second real test — at least on paper — because AS Monaco started the season 1-1-1. This isn’t only the Game of the Week, but also one of the Ligue 1 2022-23 top five matches.

Let’s check the latest Ligue 1 news, stats, injury reports and Ligue 1 odds for PSG vs AS Monaco. We’ve plenty of Ligue 1 picks and predictions for you to consider.

PSG: Scoring Machine

After three games, PSG is averaging 5.6 goals per game. That’s simply insane, but also true.

The Parisians opened the season with a 5-0 road victory over Clermont. Lionel Messi was named Man of the Match after scoring two goals. Later, in their home debut, they crushed Montpellier 5-2. Neymar was named Man of the Match after also scoring twice.

Most recently, they visited Lille. Believe it or not, the game finished 7-1. Kylian Mbappe was named Man of the Match after scoring a treble. When the clock hit the one-minute mark, the Parisians were already winning.

Summing up, they aren’t fooling around. PSG’s attacking unit is kind of unfair while the defense is pretty good. This season, they want to secure the Ligue 1 title as soon as possible in order to focus on winning the UEFA Champions League.

If they keep up this pace, they’ll soon be champions. Neymar leads the league’s scoring chart with six goals. He’s followed by Mbappe with four. No other team in the league has scored more than seven goals in total.

As expected, they’re in control of the soccer odds for Sunday’s game. They’re offering a -450 price, which to be honest, is a bit low considering all of the above.

AS Monaco: Go Big or Go Home

Handling two big competitions at the same time was too much for AS Monaco. As a result, the Monegasques failed to qualify for the UCL Group Stage and started the Ligue 1 season on the wrong foot, enough to be sitting in 11th place.

They started with a huge 2-1 road victory over Strasbourg. Krepin Diatta and Sofiane Diop were the scorers. Later, they failed to win on their home debut, drawing 1-1 to Rennes. As if that wasn’t enough, they lost Youssouf Fofana due to a red card. He was sent off only 15 minutes into the game.

Without Fofana, they also failed to win on their second home game, losing 4-1 to Lens. Lois Openda scored the opener for the visitors only seven minutes into the game. Additionally, AS Monaco lost another player due to a red card. This time it was Vanderson, who was sent off during the second half.

I think that despite the score, we were not in constant danger during this match. For me the score of 1-4 does not reflect the match itself. Even though we had more clean chances, we weren’t effective either offensively or defensively. Being behind after seven minutes also unfortunately allowed Lens to put their game in place,” explained manager Philippe Clement to the press.

He’s not entirely wrong, but if they make the same mistakes against PSG, they’ll concede much more than four goals.

Regarding the betting online lines, AS Monaco is offering a +975 price to win straight up. I think the price alone makes them a tempting underdog.

PSG vs AS Monaco Head-to-Head

  • Previous Matches: 104
  • PSG Victories: 33 (120 goals)
  • AS Monaco Victories: 44 (129 goals)

Last season, their Ligue 1 meeting at Parc des Princes finished with a 2-0 victory for the home side. Mbappe scored both goals, the first from the penalty spot. Later, AS Monaco took revenge at Stade Louis II with a 3-0 victory. Wissam Ben Yedder was the Man of the Match after scoring twice.

If there’s something you can expect from these two, it’s goals. The total has gone over in eight of their last 10 meetings.

PSG vs AS Monaco Prediction

Let’s be honest. PSG should win the Ligue 1 title without losing a single game, not even this one. You know, similar to Arsenal winning the 2003-04 English Premier League title. The Gunners finished 26-12-0. I truly believe PSG can do even better. Mbappe, Neymar and Messi are on a private contest to prove who’s the Alpha. That’s enough for PSG to keep up the pace.

That being said, I do expect AS Monaco to put up more resistance than Lille, but it won’t be enough to pull off the stunner. Therefore, our soccer prediction is another comfortable victory for the Parisians with both teams scoring.

Score Prediction: PSG 3, AS Monaco 1
