Top Two Teams in League 1 Clash in Coupe de France

If you were sad because all domestic soccer competitions are heading to a short break, I have very good news. The Coupe de France enters the Round of 16 and features several matches that you don’t want to miss.

As expected, PSG is still on track to revalidate the title. In fact, despite having several players out, the Parisians come in as the betting online favorites to defeat Nice. That’s right, one of the matches that you don’t want to miss involves the Ligue 1 first and second place.

PSG vs Nice 2022 Coupe de France Round of 16

PSG Taking Things Seriously

Let’s see, Marquinhos, Leandro Paredes, Angel Di Maria, Keylor Navas, Achraf Hakimi, Abdou Diallo and Idrissa Gueye. Those are the players that won’t be available due to the World Cup qualifiers and the African Cup of Nations. Plus, don’t forget that Neymar is out due to injury.

That being said, PSG still remains a very competitive side. That’s the advantage of having a deep roster, including Gianluigi Donnarumma, Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, Sergio Ramos and Mauro Icardi.

Most recently, PSG crushed Reims 4-0 to remain atop the Ligue 1 standings with a comfortable advantage over Nice. Ramos scored its first goal with the Parisians and Messi returned after missing a couple games due to COVID-19. That’s what I call a positive outcome.

Regarding the Coupe de France, PSG began its journey in the Round of 64 with a 3-0 victory over Feignies. Mbappe was the Man of the Match after scoring twice. That also proves that the Parisians aren’t messing around. Later, in the Round of 32, they crushed Vannes Olympique Club 4-0. Once again, Mbappe led the way with a hat trick.

Here’s another reason for the Parisians to control the soccer lines with a -220 price: They remain unbeaten at home. That’s right, they haven’t lost at Parc des Princes when it comes to domestic competitions and own a 10-1-0 record.

PSG’s predicted lineup: Gianluigi Donnarumma; Thilo Kehrer, Sergio Ramos, Presnel Kimpembe, Nuno Mendes; Danilo Pereira, Marco Verratti, Georginio Wijnaldum; Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, Mauro Icardi.

Nice: Tempting Underdog

We all knew that PSG was going to control things in Ligue 1. However, very few predicted Nice would put up a good fight. Yes, Nice is sitting in second place, 11 points behind PSG, but that’s still pretty good. Plus, they won their last five games in a row. Don’t underestimate momentum.

In their last match, they defeated Metz 2-0 with goals from Khephren Thuram and Amine Gouiri. Precisely, Gouiri is one of the main reasons for you to consider, including Nice in your soccer picks. He has scored 10 goals in Ligue 1, more than any player from PSG.

“There is no free session, no free drills. I have a young squad with a lack of experience to go and battle with the biggest sides, but my staff and I are trying to transmit this energy. Also, to give them all the ingredients in order to perform,” said head coach Christophe Galtier to the press after their last game.

Well, I think it’s safe to say they’re doing a good job. Getting into the Coupe de France, Nice eliminated Stade Olympique Cholet in the Round of 64. The game finished 1-0 thanks to a goal from Andy Delort. Then, they were supposed to face Paris FC or Lyon in the Round of 32. Nevertheless, their Round of 64 match was suspended at halftime due to some trouble with the crowd.

No major injuries or absences to report here. Nice’s predicted lineup: Walter Benitez; Jordan Lotomba, Jean-Clair Todibo, Dante Bonfim, Jordan Amavi; Hicham Boudaoui, Pablo Rosario, Khephren Thuram, Calvin Stengs; Kasper Dolberg, Amine Gouiri.

PSG vs Nice Head to Head

  • Previous Matches: 74
  • PSG Victories: 32 (114 goals)
  • Nice Victories: 21 (86 goals)
  • Draws: 21

Thanks to Ligue 1, PSG already played host to Nice. The Parisians controlled the game, won possession, and made more shots on target. Nevertheless, the game finished with a goalless draw. Nice’s goalkeeper was the Man of the Match. PSG was also the huge favorite at -275 while the draw was offering a +425 price.

Nice defeated PSG for the last time in the 2016-17 season, but they haven’t won at Parc des Princes since 2009.

PSG vs Nice Prediction

I think PSG will miss Di Maria the most, but having Messi back at 100 percent should fix the problem. This is a great opportunity for several players to finally win a spot in the starting lineup. That’s why I think PSG will go all-in right from the start.

Also, the Ligue 1 leaders want to send a clear message that no team in France can beat them. I think that’s true, but Nice won’t fall easily. Expect a back-and-forth battle in which both will score, enough for the total to go over. Precisely, that’s my football prediction. Enjoy the goal-fest.

Score Prediction: PSG 3, Nice 2

Pick: Over 3 goals (-110)
