Liga MX is back. I know it’s not as exciting as the English Premier League but give it an opportunity. It’s not considered one of the best leagues in CONCACAF and CONMEBOL for nothing.
Last season, America was among the betting online favorites to win the title but lost in the Round of 8. Las Aguilas come in among the favorites once again, but their first match isn’t going to be easy. After also being eliminated in the Round of 8, Puebla is ready to take the next step.
Puebla: Tempting Underdog
The first game of the season is always tricky, but Puebla has everything to pull off the upset. That’s right, they come in as the soccer betting underdogs despite playing at home. They’re offering a +225 price, meaning your payout for a $100 bet would be $325.
Puebla is one of those teams that really play better at home. Last tournament, they won four of their last five games at Estadio Cuauhtemoc. They scored seven goals and allowed three, finishing with a clean sheet twice.
For the upcoming tourney, Puebla brought in some reinforcements, including Kevin Ramirez and Pablo Parra. Both are expected to shine and help Christian Tabo on offense. Tabo finished as the team’s top scorer with six goals.
One of Puebla’s advantages is having Nicolas Larcamon as its head coach. He’s only 37 years old, but prior to taking the next step he was one of Pep Guardiola’s assistants. Yes, the head coach of Manchester City.
Puebla’s predicted lineup: Antony Silva; Israel Reyes, Diego de Buen, Juan Pablo Segovia, Lucas Jacques; Gustavo Ferrareis, Javier Salas, George Corral; Christian Tabo, Pablo Parra, Kevin Ramirez.
America Looking for Revenge
Last season, America finished the regular season in first place thanks to a 10-5-2 record. Liga MX has 18 teams. All play once against each other and the first 12 qualified for the postseason. The first four get a bye-week, just like in the NFL.
Going back to America, Santiago Solari remains its head coach. Solari’s career hasn’t been the best, but he used to coach Real Madrid. He also played for Los Blancos for several seasons. He was really good, by the way.
They also brought in some reinforcements in Diego Valdes and Jonathan Dos Santos. Valdes had a great tournament last season with Santos Laguna. He finished it with six goals and six assists. Dos Santos is a very experienced player that has played for Barcelona, Villarreal and Los Angeles Galaxy.
“People say that I am coming to retire here; that’s not true. I still have a lot to give in my career and to this club. I am hungry. I want to win titles with America and make the fans happy,” said the 31-year-old Dos Santos in an interview.
As if that wasn’t enough, goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa is one of the best in the region. Some even say that he’s better than Keylor Navas, who plays for PSG. I’m not one of those. The thing is, that you’ll never be wrong by including America in your soccer picks, especially at +145.
America’s predicted lineup: Guillermo Ochoa; Jorge Sanchez, Sebastian Caceres, Emanuel Aguilera, Salvador Reyes; Alvaro Fidalgo, Jonathan Dos Santos, Diego Valdes, Mauro Lainez; Roger Martinez, Henry Martin.

Last tournament, America had no trouble beating Puebla, but the game was at Estadio Azteca. Las Aguilas won 2-0 with goals from Roger Martinez and Salvador Reyes. It was a very calm match for the referee, who only showed three yellow cards.
Puebla defeated America for the last time in the 2017-18 season. That means America won their last seven meetings.

Puebla vs America Prediction
As I mentioned before, the first game is always tricky, but America simply has too much talent on offense. Plus, Solari already knows how to get the best from the entire roster, and Dos Santos is a great addition. He’s going to help win possession and create even more chances.
Puebla won’t go down easy, helping the total to go over. However, my recommendation is to include America over 1½ goals in your online gambling ticket.
Score Prediction: America 2, Puebla 1
