Top Spot on the Line
After 16 games, America is atop the Liga MX standings with 35 points. Las Aguilas depend only on themselves to finish in the first place as Monterrey, the only other team with a chance, has 34 points. Finishing in first place guarantees home-court advantage throughout the postseason.
The thing is that defeating Puebla won’t be easy. The home side already secured a spot in the playoffs, but losing could make them fall from seventh to tenth place. In other words, they’ll go all-in right from the start, making them a tempting online gambling underdog, especially at +220.
Puebla: Finishing Strong
After suffering a heartbreaking loss in Guadalajara, Puebla bounced back with two straight victories, which allowed them to climb up to the seventh place and granted them the opportunity to finish sixth.
First, they played host to Tigres, one of Mexico’s powerhouses, and won 2-1. The visitors played with only nine players as Luis Quinones and Florian Thauvin were sent off. Nevertheless, Puebla scored both goals while they were still on the field. Martin Barragan was the Man of the Match after scoring a brace. Make sure to remember that name.
Most recently, they played host to Pumas UNAM and won 2-1 as well. Jordi Cortizo and Nicolas Freire (own-goal) were the scorers. Curiously enough, the visitors won possession with 59 percent and took two more shots on target. That tells us two things: Puebla was more effective in front of goal and their defensive unit is quite good.
That should be more than enough for you to consider including them in your soccer picks, but there’s more. Barragan has had a great tournament, so much so that he’s fighting for the Golden Boot. He has scored eight goals, only three less than Nicolas Ibanez from Pachuca, who currently leads the race.
America: Top Scoring Team
Being on top of the Liga MX isn’t easy. We’re talking about one of the most competitive tournaments throughout the American continent. So, what has been America’s key? Basically, believing that the best defense is a good offense.
Las Aguilas have scored more goals than any other team with 36; that’s 2.25 goals per game. Most recently, they won El Super Clasico against Guadalajara 2-1, exactly like we predicted, so… you’re welcome!
Having won their last five games on the road also has much to do with it. Besides getting the three points, they outscored their opponents 12-2, finishing with a clean sheet in three of those games. In other words, we’re talking about a well-balanced, well-oiled machine.
That’s why they deserve to come in as the betting online favorites at +115. Considering all of the above and the fact that they can’t even afford to draw as Monterrey are favorites to defeat Pachuca, that’s a great deal.

Puebla vs America Prediction
America will also go all-in right from the start to secure first place, but it won’t be easy. Puebla hasn’t lost in their last 10 home games. The thing is that Las Aguilas have an even better scorer than Barragan. We’re talking about Henry Martin, who has scored 10 goals. He also leads the team in assists with five. That being said, trust the soccer odds and go with America. When the first-place team offers such a good price, you just take it.
