RB Leipzig: Revived

The Bundesliga side kicked off their Champions League campaign with a surprise 4-1 home defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk, a setback that proved to be fatal for Domenico Tedesco, who lost his job as Leipzig head coach last month.

RB Leipzig moved fast and appointed former Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Monchengladbach boss Marco Rose as their new coach. The German manager guided his side to a 3-0 league win over his former team, BVB. Leipzig was on the wrong end of a 2-0 reverse at Real Madrid on Matchday 2, meaning they now have no room for error when they entertain Celtic this midweek.

Chelsea-linked Christopher Nkunku and former Blues forward Timo Werner both scored a brace to help Die Roten Bullen claim just their third league win from eight matches this season. Nkunku has scored more Bundesliga goals than any other player this calendar year. If you’re betting online and you love your props, you should back him to find the back of the net on Wednesday. He was directly involved in nine Champions League goals in just six group games last season.

The RB Leipzig duo of Konrad Laimer and Lukas Klostermann are both ruled out with ankle injuries while Dani Olmo is sidelined with a ligament problem. Leipzig is unbeaten at home in the Bundesliga, claiming three wins and a draw in four games.

Celtic: Ups and Downs

Ange Postecoglou’s side opened with a spirited 3-0 loss at home to Real Madrid, and they can count themselves unlucky to have only drawn with Shakhtar Donetsk on Matchday 2. Their amazing 38-game unbeaten run in their domestic league came to an end before the international break when they lost 2-0 to St. Mirren.

A victory for Celtic at the Red Bull Arena would boost their chances of progressing from the group stage for the first time in a decade, when they finished second in a group containing Barcelona, Benfica and Spartak Moscow. They put an end to their three-game winless run across all competitions last weekend when they beat Motherwell 2-1 on home soil. We can’t trust them on the road so we won’t include them in our soccer picks and parlays.

Celtic will be without Carl Starfelt and Georgios Giakoumakis, who are both set to miss out through injury, while Cameron Carter-Vickers and James McCarthy are rated as doubtful and will be assessed ahead of kickoff.

RB Leipzig vs Celtic Head-to-Head

This will be the third meeting between Leipzig and Celtic. They met in Group B of the UEFA Europa League in 2018, with each team claiming one win apiece. Celtic has never won in Germany in 13 games, and no Scottish side has tasted a European victory on German soil since Rangers beat Vorwarts Berlin in 1961.

Celtic has triumphed in just one of their last six European away games and that trend is expected to continue on Wednesday. Four of the last five games for RB Leipzig and three of the last five for Celtic have ended with just one team on the scoresheet.

RB Leipzig vs Celtic Betting Lines

RB Leipzig vs Celtic Prediction

The hosts enter this clash as heavy favorites being priced at -180 on the three-way moneyline according to the latest soccer odds while the goal line is set at three.

Both teams will most likely end up going to this year’s Europa League instead of continuing forward, no matter who wins this game. Leipzig’s defensive line was breached on four occasions by a Shakhtar Donetsk team that was subsequently outplayed by Celtic, so we expect the visitors to easily find the back of the net.

Celtic’s inability to keep the back door shut on the European stage is well-documented while Nkunku and Timo Werner should easily find spaces and score. It’s better to avoid the moneyline and focus on the goals market as we’re expecting at least three goals.
