El Clasico Suddenly Relevant Again
With Barcelona back in form, we’ve got one of the more anticipated El Clasicos in recent memory coming your way this Sunday. Real Madrid and Barcelona have both won their last four La Liga matches and have once again looked like the best two teams in the league in recent weeks. The big difference is that league leaders Real hold a 15-point lead over Barça in the table and are the soccer betting favorites for this rivalry match.
Let’s check the latest news, stats, injury reports, and Spain La Liga odds for Real Madrid vs Barcelona. We’ve plenty of predictions for you to consider.
Morale Incredibly High for Real Madrid
Losing to PSG in mid-February lit a fire under Real Madrid. They’ve won their last five matches, with none better than their euphoric 3-1 win over PSG in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16. After PSG scored to make it 2-0 on aggregate, it looked like Real Madrid was done.
Karim Benzema had other ideas as he scored a stellar second-half hat trick to send Real through. Luka Modric also turned back the clock with a vintage performance. It’s hard to argue any striker, other than Robert Lewandowski, is better than Benzema right now. He’s scored in each of the five matches during the streak and is by far La Liga’s leading scorer.
Los Blancos are 4-0-1 ATS on their winning streak and have been one of the best recent soccer picks. They most recently beat Mallorca 3-0 on Monday as Benzema scored two more goals but limped off with an injury. It certainly looks like Real will win the title as they’re 10 points ahead of Sevilla with 10 games remaining.
Xavi’s Barcelona Transformation
Barcelona needed a win at Galatasaray in the second leg of the Europa League Round of 16 to go through to the quarterfinals and they got it. Coming in as -1½-goal favorites, Barça failed to cover the spread for the second straight match vs. Galatasaray in the 2-1 win. They’ll be happy regardless as Pedri and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sent them through after falling behind 1-0.
Despite not covering midweek, Barça have won their last four games in La Liga and have picked things up for betting online. They’ve covered the spread in three of those four matches, have moved up to third in the table and are averaging an impressive 3.5 goals per game during that span.
Barcelona have lost just two matches on the road in La Liga this season and are undefeated in their last 12 matches away from home. That means Xavi, who took over in November, has yet to lose a road match in La Liga.
Real Madrid vs Barcelona Head-to-Head
Soccer’s most famous rivalry has been one-sided over the past few seasons. Real Madrid have won the last five meetings over Barcelona, including twice this season.
Los Blancos defeated Barça 3-2 in extra time in the Supercopa de España semifinals in January in Xavi’s first Clasico as Barcelona boss. Fede Valverde scored the winner for Real Madrid. Under Ronald Koeman last October, Barcelona fell 2-1 at the Camp Nou.
This has been a rivalry with distinct runs lately. Real Madrid are unbeaten in the last six, which follows a seven-game unbeaten streak for Barça.

Real Madrid vs Barcelona Prediction
With Benzema’s status up in the air for Real Madrid, it could present a big opportunity for Barcelona to get their first win over Los Blancos for three years. Even if Benzema plays, it doesn’t appear that he’ll be at full strength. If he sits out, Carlo Ancelotti will have to rely on the unproven Luka Jovic, Mariano or play a false nine.
In three La Liga matches without Benzema this season, Real Madrid are 0-1-2 ATS and have scored just one goal per game. He is the focal point of their attack, and while Vini Jr. is a dangerous player, the Brazilian is at his best alongside Benzema.
Eder Militao is also dealing with an illness for Real Madrid, but the center back should be fit and ready for Sunday. Real will also be missing Eden Hazard and left back Ferland Mendy. Barcelona’s Sergino Dest picked up an injury vs. Galatasaray and is a doubt for Sunday. Nico Gonzalez is suspended and Samuel Umtiti, Sergi Roberto and Ansu Fati are all out injured.
Barça played Real very close in the Supercopa de Espana semifinals and that was before Barcelona added Adama Traore and Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang. They’re a more dynamic team now and have the ability to cause the Madrid defense some problems.
I’m not sure Barcelona will get all three points, but this is a golden opportunity to get a result for Xavi’s men. Take them at +½ in the sportsbook for Sunday’s Clasico.
