For the third season in a row, the last two Champions League winners –Real Madrid and Chelsea– meet in the knockout rounds of the competition. Our sportsbook offers the best markets and bonuses for the UCL.

Champions League Power

Real Madrid faces Chelsea this week in the first leg of their Champions League Quarter-Final. It’s a repeat of what was a dramatic tie between the sides at this stage in last season’s competition. Real Madrid won despite an impressive second-leg comeback from what was then Thomas Tuchel’s side.

The hosts are clearer favorites this time around, although they come into the game on the back of a disappointing 3-2 home defeat against Villarreal. There was rotation ahead of this tie because the domestic title is effectively out of sight, with Lost Blacos sitting 13 points behind Barcelona.

Madrid blew Liverpool away in the first knockout round, 6-2 on aggregate, and has a phenomenal goalscoring record bolstered by the insatiable form of Karim Benzema. The Frenchman has scored two hat-tricks in his last three appearances, taking his tally to 24 goals. He looks a likely anytime goalscorer contender after netting five goals in his last four appearances against Chelsea, so if you’re betting online, you should back him to contribute on the scoresheet.

The Real Madrid medical team is only looking after one injured player. Ferland Mendy is still recovering from a calf injury sustained in training last month, and he should be the hosts’ only absentee for this contest.

Chelsea: New Manager

Sacking Graham Potter and signing Frank Lampard as caretaker was presumably supposed to jolt Chelsea into life or, at least, give it a puncher’s chance in the Champions League. That has not happened. There has been no new manager bounce for Chelsea, quite the reverse. The club has had a different manager for the past three games and hasn’t won any.

Given the hundreds of millions spent on players in two transfer windows, integrating youth will be a key part of the brief for whoever gets the Chelsea job full-time at the end of the season. But Lampard’s immediate priority here was to get the team set up for Madrid. Still, the club looked very bad in the 1-0 defeat to Wolves. Chelsea failed to find the back of the net in the previous three games, so we won’t include it in our Champions League picks and parlays.

To say Chelsea is having a poor season would be a huge understatement. Its hopes of playing any form of European football next term may rest in winning this competition, with the Blues only 11th in the Premier League.

Armando Broja and Thiago Silva join Mason Mount on the sidelines with their respective knee injuries, while Cesar Azpilicueta is yet to return from his injury. Benoit Badiashile, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Noni Madueke, and David Datro Fofana are not part of the Blues’ Champions League squad.

Real Madrid vs Chelsea Head-to-Head

Real Madrid ran out 5-4 winners on aggregate in last season’s quarter-finals, with the defending champions looking to make the semi-finals for the 11th time in the last 13 seasons.

Real Madrid has scored 12 goals in its last four home games. Chelsea has only lost one of its last nine Champions League knockout-stage matches away to Spanish opposition, unbeaten in three such trips, losing one of its seven games against Real Madrid in European competition.

Real Madrid vs Chelsea Betting Lines

Real Madrid vs Chelsea Picks and Prediction

Real Madrid enters this clash as a heavy favorite, priced at -145 on the three-way moneyline according to the latest Champions League odds, while the goal line is set at 2½.

Despite the obvious quality in this Chelsea squad, the lack of a natural goalscorer to lead the line will be the key to this tie. By comparison, Real Madrid has the likes of Benzema and Vinicius Junior coming into form at just the right time. Madrid rested several players at the weekend against Villarreal and we expect it to win this clash in front of its fans. We should also see at least two goals in this game, so we will combine the moneyline with the goals market for better odds.

Real Madrid is listed at -145 in our Champions League lines. This means that if you wager $100 on Real Madrid, you have a chance to win $69. Chelsea is +425, offering a chance to win $425 on a $100 wager.

The implied probability attached to the betting lines gives Real Madrid a 59.18% chance to win, with Chelsea at 19.05%.
