Real Madrid and Inter Milan have already qualified for the UEFA Champions League Round of 16. However, it remains to be seen which team finishes at the top of Group D.
If the Italians want to finish atop, they must win despite coming in as the betting online underdogs at +240. The home side could settle for a draw but knowing Los Blancos they’ll go for the W.
Real Madrid Vs Inter Milan 2021 Champions League Group Stage Matchday 6
Inter Milan Turnaround
Inter Milan had a very rocky start to the Group Stage. First, they lost to Real Madrid 1-0 at home. The total went under 2½ goals, just like we predicted at +115. They then drew 0-0 to Shakhtar Donetsk.
That Inter ha some trouble wasn’t a surprise. Simone Inzaghi took over as head coach after Antonio Conte left and the players were adapting to a new system. But things have drastically changed and now they seem more than adapted. Inter hasn’t lost in its last 11 games in all competitions.
Prior to this crucial game, Inter beat AS Roma 3-0 in the Serie A and climbed to second place. Hakan Calhanoglu, Edin Dzeko and Denzel Dumfries were the scorers. Dzeko arrived to replace Romelu Lukaku and has done a great job. He has scored eight goals in the Serie A and three in the UCL.
Inter has been the soccer betting favorite in each game of the Group Stage. Yes, that includes the first leg against Real Madrid. Its current record is 3-1-1 with eight goals for and three against. Not bad at all.
We’re talking about a well-balanced team. They won their last four games in all competitions with a 9-0 aggregate. When talking about the best goalkeeper in the world, everybody usually mentions Gianluigi Donnarumma, Jan Oblak and Manuel Neuer. Inter’s Samir Handanovic should be included in that conversation.
No major injuries to report here. In fact, Lautaro Martinez and Roberto Gagliardini, who are usually starters, didn’t play against AS Roma. That means they’ll be at 100 percent to assault the Santiago Bernabeu.
Inter Milan’s expected lineup: Samir Handanovic; Danilo D’Ambrosio, Milan Skriniar, Federico Dimarco; Denzel Dumfries, Roberto Gagliardini, Marcelo Brozovic, Nicolo Barella, Ivan Perisic; Lautaro Martinez, Edin Dzeko.
Real Madrid Unstoppable
After losing to Espanyol in early October, Real Madrid has won nine of 10 games in all competitions. The other game finished with a goalless draw. Most recently, they beat Real Sociedad 2-0 to take an eight-point advantage at the top of La Liga.
“Quality and commitment are important things and we’re demonstrating that. The good run we’re on is down to these elements,” said head coach Carlo Ancelotti in the pregame press conference.
He’s not wrong. Real Madrid has overcome a lot of obstacles, most of them related to injuries. Dani Ceballos and Gareth Bale haven’t been able to play in a long time. Now, Karim Benzema is also out. Real Madrid opened at -118 but now, according to the latest online gambling odds, they’re offering a +120 price. That’s how good the Frenchman is.
No doubt Benzema will be missed, but Ancelotti already found a replacement in Luka Jovic. He replaced Benzema in last weekend’s game and scored Madrid’s second goal. Jovic hasn’t played much since joining the team, but he’s a killer. He scored 17 goals with Frankfurt during the 2018-19 Bundesliga season.
Let’s not forget about Vinicius Junior. The Brazilian is having an outstanding season and has scored in three of their last five games.
Real Madrid’s predicted lineup: Thibaut Courtois; Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao, David Alaba, Ferland Mendy; Casemiro, Toni Kroos, Luka Modric; Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, Luka Jovic.
