Real Madrid: Reigning Champs

Real Madrid will begin the Spanish Super Cup title defense quest on Wednesday evening when they take on Valencia in the semifinal clash at King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh. They defeated Barcelona on the way to the title last year and they are set as big favorites to dispatch Copa del Rey runners-up Valencia here.

Carlo Ancelotti’s troops will come into the game off the back of a disappointing performance in the 2-1 defeat at Villarreal on Saturday afternoon in La Liga. They are now three points shy of Barcelona at the top of the league standings. Ancelotti will be keen to turn his attention to picking up the first piece of silverware of the season. They had claimed three straight wins prior to that defeat and will be targeting a swift return to winning ways.

Real Madrid’s defensive vulnerability will be a source of worry. They have been shaky at the back lately and have conceded in seven of their last nine matches across all competitions, so if you’re betting online you should expect them to concede at least once on Wednesday. They will be without defender David Alaba and midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, who are both dealing with calf injuries.

Alaba is believed to have picked up the issue against Villarreal while Tchouameni is thought to have suffered the problem during Monday’s training session. Karim Benzema has been in good form since La Liga resumed and has scored three goals in his last two matches. The French striker has also found the net seven times in the last five meetings with Valencia.

Valencia: Disappointing Season

Valencia will enter the match in lower spirits. They suffered a shocking 0-1 defeat at home to relegation-threatened Cadiz on Friday. It was the second successive league loss for Valencia, who is now sitting 11th in the standings. The fact Valencia only managed to register two shots on target against the leaky Cadiz defense says enough about their current form.

The visitors will be the underdogs heading into Wednesday’s affair, and they have only actually managed to beat Real Madrid on one occasion since early 2019. Valencia has also struggled to maintain their discipline at the back this season and we don’t expect that to improve now, so we won’t include them in our soccer picks and parlays.

On-loan Barcelona midfielder Nico Gonzalez is on the sidelines with a fractured foot while Samu Castillejo has undergone surgery on a fractured wrist, so he will miss out on the contest. Jaume Domenech has made the trip with his teammates to provide support, but the goalkeeper remains unavailable for selection through injury. Edinson Cavani has been a hit since moving to Valencia, scoring five goals in nine appearances.

Real Madrid vs Valencia Head-to-Head

Seven of Real Madrid’s last nine matches have seen both teams to score, while both teams have also netted in seven of Valencia’s last 11 matches. Real Madrid has scored exactly twice in three of their last five fixtures while conceding exactly once on four occasions in their last nine fixtures. Valencia has allowed exactly twice on four occasions in their last 11 games, a run that includes a couple of 2-1 defeats. Gennaro Gattuso’s troops lost four of the previous five matches in all competitions. Real Madrid will enter this clash on the back of three consecutive victories over Valencia.

Real Madrid vs Valencia Picks & Prediction

Los Blancos enter this clash as heavy favorites being priced at -185 on the three-way moneyline according to the latest soccer odds while the goal line is set at three.

Valencia did not look good offensively at all in the recent games. They had just a couple of attempts on target in the home fixture against Cadiz last weekend. Real Madrid will be without two key players on Wednesday, but they definitely have the power to cover the spread and try to win their first trophy of the year. Historically, this fixture has so often proved an entertaining one so we will combine the moneyline with the goals market.

The Real Madrid are listed at -185 in our Vegas SPORT lines. This means that if you wager $100 on Real Madrid , you have a chance to win $54. The Valencia  are +500, offering a chance to win $500 on a $100 wager.

The implied probability attached to the betting lines gives Real Madrid a 54.91% chance to win, with Valencia at 16.67%.
