Seattle Sounders vs Colorado Rapids Prediction, Match Preview, Live Stream, Odds and Picks
Only MLS Game Scheduled for Sunday
Forget about boring Sunday nights, MLS is back. The Seattle Sounders, considered a dark horse, will play host to the Colorado Rapids, a team that went from first to 10th place in the Western Conference over the last two seasons. Nevertheless, they’ll be led by an inspired Diego Rubio, making them a tempting MLS betting underdog, especially in the first game of the season, which is always kind of tricky.

Seattle Sounders: Nicolas Lodeiro Leading the Way
Last season, the Seattle Sounders missed the playoffs for the first time in club history. As if that wasn’t enough, they set club records for the fewest points with 41 and most losses with 17. That’s why they’re eager for the new season to start, to redeem themselves.
The Sounders will be led by Nicolas Lodeiro, who simply loves to play against the Colorado Rapids. Lodeiro has contributed to 10 goals in 10 games against the Rapids. He contributed to multiple goals in three of his last four home matches against Colorado.
Lodeiro won’t be alone. In fact, the Sounders own one of the best-attacking units in the league, including Raul Ruidiaz, Cristian Roldan, Freddy Montero and Jordan Morris. As if all of them weren’t enough, they signed Heber Araujo from New York City FC.
Seattle recently played in the FIFA Club World Cup, failing to defeat Al-Ahly in the second round. Another reason why they’re thirsty for revenge. Finally, they’re offering a -125 price in the Las Vegas odds. Not bad for a team that won its last preseason match 2-1 with Araujo and Roldan as the scorers.
Colorado Rapids: Better than that
In 2022, the Colorado Rapids won one of their 19 road matches in all competitions. They finished with eight points and 42 goals conceded. They tied the San Jose Earthquakes for the worst marks on the road in last MLS season. The Earthquakes finished dead last in the Western Conference.
They’re better than that, I can assure you. First, as mentioned before, they’ll be led by an inspired Diego Rubio, who set a club record in 2022 with 23 goal contributions. He scored 16 goals, the most scored in a single season in Rapids history.
Second, they signed center-back Andreas Maxso, left-back Alex Gersbach and center-midfielder Connor Ronan. All of them are expected to revitalize a defensive unit that last season allowed 57 goals. Only San Jose allowed more with 69. In other words, the front office did a good job during the offseason.
The Rapids finished the preseason 2-1-1. Most recently, they lost 4-1 to the Philadelphia Union, which is why they’re offering a +330 price to win straight up. That’s a tempting deal to include in your MLS picks since a $100 wager could turn into a $430 payout.
Seattle Sounders vs Colorado Rapids Head-to-Head
- Previous Matches: 35
- Seattle Sounders Victories: 23 (61 goals)
- Colorado Rapids Victories: 8 (35 goals)
- Draws: 4
These two met twice last season, with each team winning at home. First, the Colorado Rapids won 1-0 with Jonathan Lewis as the scorer. Later, the Seattle Sounders came from behind to win 2-1 with Jordan Morris and Nicolas Lodeiro as the scorers. Considering they played the second half with 10 players since Kyle Rowe was sent off, that ended up being a stunner.
Seattle has won 15 of their 18 home matches against Colorado, including the last six in a row. That’s the highest winning percentage in MLS history among fixtures played at least 10 times. No wonder they come in as the betting online favorites.

Seattle Sounders vs Colorado Rapids Picks and Prediction
Despite setting negative records in 2022, the Sounders also rewrote history for good by becoming the first MLS team to win the CONCACAF Champions League, which means we’re talking about a powerhouse. Playing in the FIFA Club World Cup allowed them to have a more intense preseason than all other MLS clubs, which is why I think they shouldn’t have too much trouble getting the three points on Sunday.
The Seattle is listed at -125 in our Vegas MLS lines. This means that if you wager $100 on Seattle, you have a chance to win $80. Colorado is +330, offering a chance to win $330 on a $100 wager.
The implied probability attached to the betting lines gives Seattlea a 55.56% chance to win, with Colorado at 23.26%.
