Seattle Sounders vs Portland Timbers Predictions, Game Preview, Live Stream, Odds & Picks, July 9

Aiming for the Podium

After a rocky start, the Seattle Sounders have won six of their last nine games (6-1-2). They already are in the play-off zone, but they won’t settle until they reach the top. Defeating the Portland Timbers could allow them to move from seventh to third place in the Western Conference.

According to the soccer odds (-120), they shouldn’t have much trouble doing so, but not so fast. The visitors enter this match on a season-long four-match unbeaten streak (2-2-0).

Seattle Sounders: It’s All About Balance

The Seattle Sounders are well known for their attacking unit. Raul Ruidiaz, Freddy Montero, Jordan Morris, Leo Chu, Cristian Roldan and Nicolas Lodeiro. Ruidiaz, who has scored 10 goals in 11 matches against the Timbers, missed the last two games due to a hamstring injury. He’s expected to return on Saturday. Lodeiro deserves a special mention as he’s having a great season with eight goals and seven assists in all competitions.

Defensively, no other team in the Western Conference has allowed less goals than the Sounders with 19. However, they’ll be looking to keep consecutive clean sheets for the first time since May 2021. There’s also good news for the defense as Stefan Frei and Albert Rusnak will return as well.

Last Saturday, despite missing several players, the Sounders went to Toronto and won 2-0. Dylan Teves and Montero were the scorers. They were way more effective as the home side won possession with 62 percent but did nothing with it.

Seattle’s home record isn’t the best, 5-1-3, but that’s two more victories than on the road. Plus, they’ll unveil their CONCACAF Champions League banner on Saturday, as they celebrate being the first MLS team to win the continental tournament. You can expect them, and the crowd, to be extra motivated.

Including the Sounders in your soccer picks would mean a $120 investment in order to win $100.

Portland Timbers: Good Offense Is the Best Defense

That’s right, you can expect fireworks as the Portland Timbers are also well known for their attacking unit. In fact, the Timbers are one of only two teams in MLS who have six players with at least three goals scored. Jaroslaw Niezgoda is the team’s top scorer with six goals.

Last Sunday, the team showed a lot of resilience by overcoming a two-goal deficit against Nashville SC (2-2). It marked the first time in the club’s MLS history that they earned a point on the road when trailing by multiple goals in the 60th minute or later. Dairon Asprilla and Niezgoda were the scorers. Like Lodeiro, Eryk Williamson is having a great season. He has five assists and was named to MLS Team of the Week for Week 18.

Portland has scored multiple goals in each of its last three matches after doing so just four times in its first 16 games of the season. They truly believe that a good offense is the best defense.

Despite not having lost in their last four games, the Timbers deserve to come in as the soccer betting online underdogs. After all, they own a 1-5-4 record when playing on the road. They’re offering a +305 price. In this case, your $100 wager could turn into $405 in total.
