Last season, Inter Miami won the Leagues Cup thanks to Lionel Messi. I’m not exaggerating. Now, the Herons are set to defend the title without the Argentinian, who suffered an injury during the Grand Finale of the Copa America. Well, he might return during the tournament but the Herons would have to make it at least into the Round of 16.

What’s the Leagues Cup and Who to Bet On?
When Worlds Collide
First, I think it’s important to recap what the Leagues Cup is about. It’s a tournament in which the MLS clubs collide with the Liga MX teams. In other words, it’s a tournament to determine which league is better. And to make tons of money, of course.
The tournament runs from July 26 to August 25. A total of 47 teams fight for the title. The tournament’s structure is simple, kind of. The Columbus Crew and Club America already qualified for the Round of 32. Why? Because the Crew won the last edition of the MLS Cup and Club America won more points than any other Liga MX team during the last two domestic tournaments.
The other 45 teams are distributed in 15 groups of three teams each, with the top two teams per group advancing to the knockout stages. Later, there are five knockout rounds, from the Round of 32 to the Grand Finale.
Prize
The top three teams qualify for the next edition of the CONCACAF Champions League. The winner advances directly to the Round of 16, while second and third place have to play in the Group Stage.
Besides qualifying for the continental tournament, the winning team earns around $2 million. In other words, we’re talking about a very lucrative tournament.

Will Inter Miami Win Leagues Cup Without Messi?

Leagues Cup Betting Preview
As mentioned before, Club America dominates the odds to win the Leagues Cup at +800 . Las Aguilas’ attacking unit is led by Henry Martin, who’s a scoring machine. He scored at least 22 goals in each of the last two Mexican tournaments.
