The New England Revolution clinched the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference weeks ago. The Seattle Sounders remain the favorites to finish atop the Western Conference. However, Sporting Kansas City and the Colorado Rapids just won’t give up.
With only six points between the two, Kansas City must beat host Seattle on Saturday to keep its first-place hopes alive. Keep in mind that they’ve played one game less than the Sounders. This is also a great opportunity for Seattle. If the Sounders win, only a catastrophe would prevent them from finishing in first place.
Let’s check the latest news, stats, injury reports, and soccer odds for Seattle vs Kansas City.

The last time they met, the Seattle Sounders got a huge 2-1 victory on the road. Our total prediction, over 2½ goals, paid off. Cristian Roldan and Will Bruin scored for Seattle, while Johnny Russell did it for Kansas City.
Despite losing that one, Sporting KC owns a 5-1-4 record in their last 10 meetings with the Sounders. During that span, they scored 19 goals, allowed 14 and finished with a clean sheet twice.
If there’s something you can expect from these two, it’s goals. The total went over in eight of those 10 matchups. Also, both scored in their last six meetings.
No Time to Relax
The Seattle Sounders clinched a spot in the playoffs a couple of weeks ago. Nevertheless, they haven’t taken their foot off the gas, especially when it comes to facing first-place contenders. Most recently, they drew 1-1 to the Colorado Rapids, who currently sit in third place and are also six points behind them.
“I have gone on record to say that a tie is like a loss. This one feels a little different because we went behind against a really well-coached, good team,” said head coach Brian Schmetzer to the press.
He’s not wrong, and they better be prepared because Sporting KC is also a well-coached team. If the Sounders keep doing what they’ve done all season, they should be fine. Seattle is a well-balanced team. They’ve scored 50 goals, second best in the Western Conference, and have allowed 26, best in the league.
Their home numbers should finish convincing you to include them in your soccer picks. They’re 8-4-3, 7-7-1 against the spread and 6-8-1 over/under. They won their last three home games by an 8-1 aggregate.
Raul Ruidiaz, the team’s top scorer with 16 goals, is recovering from an ankle injury. He’ll be missed, but the Sounders have talent to spare. Leo Chu, who’s 21, entered the mix a few weeks ago. Nicolas Benezet and Will Bruin are also capable of replacing Ruidiaz.
Sporting KC can’t afford to lose and must go all-in right from the start. Otherwise, first place won’t be a possibility. I mean, mathematically they would still have a chance, but Seattle’s margin for error would increase considerably.
The visitors sit in second place with 52 points thanks to a 15-7-7 record, 52 goals for and 33 against. No other team in the Western Conference has scored more goals. They are second to the Revolution in goals.
Most recently, they lost 2-1 to the Vancouver Whitecaps. After the game, head coach Peter Vermes said winning is about creativity. If that’s true, they’re going to need some Walt Disney creativity level to beat Seattle.
The good thing is, Sporting KC has the right tools to do it. Daniel Salloi, the team’s top scorer with 16 goals, is ready to go. He plays alongside Khiry Shelton and Johnny Russell to form probably the best attacking trio in the league. SKC scored at least one goal in their last six games.
Vermes’ team has been a profitable betting online option even when playing on the road. They’re 7-2-5, 9-5 against the spread and 8-5-1 over/under. Beating Seattle won’t secure them first place, but it could secure them a playoffs spot. That should be enough to do whatever it takes to win three points.
Final Analysis, Predictions
Expect goals. Both sides have an incredible attacking unit and a lot will be on the line. Sporting KC have scored first in 75 percent of their last eight encounters. If they can do that again, they’ll put up a good fight. Seattle will go all-in as well and won’t relax until the first place is locked.
