Odds Against the Home Side
Prior to the start of the season, Sporting KC and the New England Revolution were among the faves to dethrone New York City FC in MLS. However, after 15 and 13 games, respectively, it’s neither side in post-season position.
So, it’s just about a must-win match Sunday, and that’s why the game is so appealing. Despite having a 1-2-3 record when playing on the road, the Revs are slightly favored in the sportsbook. Having the reigning MVP is always an advantage.

KC Can’t Be the Worst
Sporting KC already are the worst team in the Western Conference, meaning the Wizards have nothing to lose here. The only category in which they aren’t dead-last is goals allowed (26) this season, so not quite as porous as the San Jose Earthquakes’ total of 32.
However, the good news a victory over the New England Revolution would allow them to climb out of the bottom position. The bad news is that they come in as the betting online underdogs, understandably, at +195.
Recently, the Wizards lost, 1-0, to the Vancouver Whitecaps. They had possession with 60 percent, and finished with six more shots than the Whitecaps. They couldn’t capitalize, however.
Before losing to Vancouver, Sporting KC defeated the Houston Dynamo, 2-1, in the Round of 16 of the U.S. Open Cup. They’re not nearly as bad as they’ve played. Johnny Russell scored both goals, one from the penalty spot. Considering that Daniel Salloi isn’t available (UEFA Nations League), it was a good win by the team.
The Wizards have been considerably better at home. They own a 3-2-2 record, while not the best, it is better than their 0-2-6 record on the road.
NE Turning Things Around
It was a very rocky start, but the New England Revolution are slowly starting to turn it around. Bruce Arena’s team only lost one of its last seven (all-competition) games. That was against New York City FC, 1-0, in the Round of 16 of the U.S. Open Cup.
Revs’ last MLS game was against the Philadelphia Union, ending 1-1. Gustavo Bou opened the can for New England, but Mikael Uhre evened the score just two minutes after that. The Revs won possession with 60 percent, while finishing with 22 shots, 17 more than Philly. That’s crazy.
Despite sitting in 11th place, they are one of the top-scoring teams in the Eastern Conference. With 22 goals, only NYCFC, CF Montreal and the New York Red Bulls have more thus far.
However, unlike Sporting KC, the Revolution will have their best player available here. That’s Carles Gil, the reigning MVP of MLS. Gil, Bou and Sebastian Lletget are one scary trio. Also Jozy Altidore will be on the bench, awaiting an opportunity.
Summing up, the Revs deserve to control the soccer lines at +140.
